Sore

These last two days I've been experimenting with improvised methods of getting my prosthetic leg back on. I've had it off too long now and it's swollen in size such that it won't fit any more. With any luck, I can get it compressed back correctly so that it fits again and then I can walk...and shoot and work a rudder pedal.

I'm probably rushing things a bit. I don't know for sure because I've carefully avoided asking the right questions of the experts because I don't want to wait or "take it slow" any more. The longer I wait, the less likely that the leg will fit again and then all my legs will have to be re-made.

So I've been pushing the envelope a bit. And I probably pushed it a bit too hard yesterday and today and I'm paying for it tonight. So tomorrow I'm gonna do what the doctors would have told me and just sit back and rest and keep my leg up.

Right after I get back from the grocery store, because I'm wanting to eat something that doesn't come out of a can or a box for a change.

Wny can't dogs get groceries for us? And it's not like I haven't tried to teach them because I have tried. They just always come back with the wrong items and incorrect change.

  1. If the change is the problem, why don't you just give the dogs one of your credit cards?

    1. What, so a Fed-Ex truck can pull up and unload ten thousand dollars worth of squeaky toys?

    1. It's all part of the game. I'm still grateful for every sunrise though, and I WILL be walking in some fashion come next Saturday. Gun show?

  4. At least the dog will go to the store for you. The cat will come back with cat food and catnip. And not the cheap stuff.

  5. I cannot help but think the procedures should take into consideration the fitments of the old gear...something like a slightly increased sock thingy to meld your flesh into the needed shape gently but firmly. Ala a corset, ya know? I don't know much about it but it seems to me that would be part and parcel of the recovery - to make it FIT. I hope things improve for you steadily!!

    1. I have such things and have used them constantly since the surgery, and it's for that reason alone that I can even get the leg to partially fit now. There are a few tricks that I've learned over the years but in the end it looks like it's just going to have to come down to a force fitting, like trying to get a size ten foot into a size eight boot.
