Well that didn't work.

After reading about Belle's latest shenanigans re: the baby gate, someone suggested that I turn the chairs around so that she could not climb them. This sounded like a good idea, so I turned them and then I bungeed them to the gate so that Belle could not move them. I then put the dogs out and went off to do reloading stuff prior to a range visit tomorrow.

Alas, the next time I checked, Murphy was again the solo dog on the deck. As for Belle...Yeah, she's on the outside again.

At least she came back when she heard me walk out onto the deck.
Guess that it's time to build a bigger gate. Or just super-glue her to the deck since she's not grasping the concept of this "honor system" boundary marker.

  1. Ha - good idea - a bigger gate. Get a second one, overlap them so it's nearly twice as high, see she can scale that then. I think she kinda enjoys dickin' with ya! :)

  4. Heavy eye bolt into the decking. Heavy chain attached to the eye bolt. Heavy clip on the chain. Clip onto Belle.

  5. She's definitely toying with you. Wouldn't recommend a chain unless it doesn't go anywhere near the edge. I vote a fence that goes all the way around the desk and up to the fence. Like Thunderdome.

  6. Again, electrify the gate.

You will find out after a few weeks you can actually turn the power off cause they are afraid to touch it.

They make them just for dogs. The electric charge is low.

  11. If you want real world assistance in training both your dogs for control even when you are on crutches contact these trainers in Fairfax, VA., Sit Means Sit Fairfax (703-342-6164). They can provide the training you need for both dogs, good for the lifetime of the dog. I am currently a client of the Southern Arizona trainer. I put a two year old pup that had been returned to the shelter four times on a 5 mile off leash hike after three weeks of training.

  12. Hotwire the fence. I'm not a fan of doing so, but sometimes thats what it takes to get it through to the dog....
