As I was reading the New York Post this afternoon (the only paper worth reading from that great city) I came across this story about a thug named Deron Johnson who tried to rob a 56 year old woman who was in a wheelchair. I guess that Deron thought that she'd be an easy target but he's the one who wound up being a target as she drew her concealed pistol and shot him in the arm as he fled.
Story here
Deron has a lengthy criminal history that includes nine previous arrests but it was no match for the retired wheelchair user's pluck and her .357 Magnum. Now Deron's back in custody, hopefully with a newfound respect for people in wheelchairs. I love happy endings.
This is strictly a matter of opinion, but I say that the NY Post is NOT "the only paper worth reading" from New York. I'm sort of astonished that you do not consider the New York Sun to be a "worth reading" daily (Monday - Friday). Its viewpoints are certainly quite in line with those expressed in your blog. I get home delivery.
ReplyDeleteAs for Margaret Johnson, the old lady in the wheelchair, to her I say "Bravissima!!!"
It sort of reminds me of the story involving my grandfather, who one day in the late 1950s or early 1960's was using his crutches instead of his prosthesis, and was accosted by a would-be mugger in downtown Philadelphia. His one leg, one crutch and the wall of the building provided enough of a stable platform from which he could to wield his other crutch to fend off and disable the assailant.
Crutches can be very effective instruments of personal defense.
Fair enough. I'm not familiar with the Sun but I will check them out. Info appreciated!
