More on the Webb gun episode

Update: Today's Washington Post is all over this, doing a two-page "story" that basically just tells us all kinds of nice things about Web and Thompson. Apparently Thompson was carrying Webb's gun now, and the Post is working overtime to do damage control on both of these guys, for no other reason that I can fathom other than that they are Democrats. We all know that if it was a staffer to a Republican Congressman and it was discovered that a Republican Congressman like Duncan Hunter or Tom Tancredo was trying to carry a gun into the Capitol, the Post and other Liberal publications would be bombarding us with two weeks of op-eds about how egregious it was, what a safety threat it posed, and how wrong it was for Congressmen to get a pass on gun laws that affect ordinary citizens. We'd probably be getting tons of front page news items about people getting shot too, just to further drive the point home that guns and people who carry them are bad. But this is a Democrat, and one who has been quite vocal in his opposition to the war and his hatred of our elected President so the Post is just going to tell us what a nice guy he is and remind us than anyone can make a mistake.

No wonder America prefers Fox News.

I think this is just another example of the naivete of Senator Webb and his lack of judgment. I am sure his aide intended no harm, but the Senator should be aware of the restrictions that apply to gun ownership and should abide by them. He should have inquired whether the aide had a similar permit BEFORE giving him the gun. This is how guns can get into the hands of the wrong people. Webb should be acting as a responsible citizen, not someone who ignores the law. While he may support the right to bear arms, he also has an affirmative duty to uphold and obey the law. The Senator should apologize to his constituents for this mishap and assure them that he will abide by the law. Virginians expect no less.

The real question is whether that gun was one of the ones Webb used to use when he drove around LA with his buddies aiming guns at black people.
