File this under I for Ironic--Per this story in the Washington Post, the attorneys working for the federal government's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are madder than a bunch of skinheads watching The Jeffersons. They just found out that their office is moving from it's current downtown digs surrounded by parks and upscale restaurants to a building out on New York Avenue NE in Washington DC. Now I know this part of DC well, and it's definitely a good place to get carjacked while trying to buy drugs. I used to make a decent number of arrests in that area when I worked in DC and frankly it's a hole. But you'd think that these civil rights lawyers--traditionally some of the most liberal lawyers in a city full of liberal lawyers--would relish the thought of being able to circulate in the poor neighborhoods and counsel the people there, maybe telling them to stay in school, avoid drugs, and not get pregnant before they are married and able to afford children. (Oh wait--those are conservative values--sorry.) But apparently now the liberals want...are you ready for this? GUNS!
"Give me a handgun and a bulletproof vest and an ATF windbreaker, and I wouldn't worry either," an unhappy EEOC official told a Post reporter.
Too funny. And it just proves my old belief that a Liberal is someone who advocates for people that he doesn't want in his neighborhood or dating his daughters.
Hey, good luck with that, EEOC gang! Take some time to walk the neighborhoods and get to know the locals on a one-to-one basis. Granted a few of you might not come back, but it's not like America's really got a shortage of lawyers now, is it?
At least the EEOC attorneys get their government paychecks every two weeks. Unlike those of us in private practice, they are insulated from deadbeat clients.
ReplyDeleteAnd what about that old liberal stock line about pouring money into neighborhoods to stop crime and poverty? Isn't that what the EEOC effectively proposes to do?
And stop badmouthing that area around New York and Florida Avenues. It is a fine residential neighborhood and a good place to live and raise a family -- at least it was 60 years ago when my mother-in-law lived there when she was growing up!
Please, we're not all liberals in here. Most of us are irked because this whole shenanigan was mishandled and mismanaged from the get go. The move saves money? No! it's going to cost more to move here than it would to stay put.
ReplyDeleteEEOC btw deals with employment law, not criminal.
