Missing the days when Paul Newman was a man

Cool Hand Luke...The Towering Inferno...The Sting...Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid... Wow! There was a time when Paul Newman exemplified what is was to be a man. He was rugged, independent--he took no crap.

But apparently that was just his movie image. The real Paul Newman today is just a pathetic bitch-boy for the Democrats. In a recent fundraising letter sent out under his name, (read the letter here) he rambles on and on about how bad President Nixon was (He was a better man than you, Paul) and begs for money on behalf of his pet cause: keeping Democrats in charge in the Senate. Now he doesn't bother to tell us what good things that Harry Reid, Carl Levin, Dianne Feinstein and Hillary Clinton have accomplished or might someday do. (Granted they haven't done a single thing since attaining the majority...) Nah. All he does is give us another display of leftist liberal tolerance as he whines about how evil and dangerous the Republicans and anyone who agrees with them are. Somehow I can't see this pantywaist standing up to injustice or fighting the elements to accomplish the impossible as so many of his on-screen characters did. As a long-time fan of his old movies, I'm sad to see the veneer stripped away, because the real Paul Newman is nothing like those icons that used to fight the good fight on the silver screen. Instead he's nothing but another bitter has-been, full of hate for those who hold differing views, and doubtless jealous of the people who've actually done good things for this country in spite of the efforts of him and his liberal pals. As of today, my Paul Newman movies just hit the same trash can that once also caught any movie that had Jane Fonda or Alec Baldwin in it. Very sad.
