How to be a piss-poor excuse for an American

Yesterday I'm perusing the Washington post, when I run across this editorial by Gary Jacobsen. And of course my head almost explodes, because here's this guy bragging about hiring day laborers to work on some rental property that he owns and boasting about what a bargain it was compared to hiring Americans or a bona-fide contractor that actually pays a decent wage, withholds taxes, and carries insurance.

Oh, and shame, shame on the Washington Post for printing this. What's on for next week? An article telling people how to shoplift from the store or carjack someone?

But back to Jacobsen. It's not as if we're talking about some middle-class homeowner here who needs work done on his home but can't afford it due to the high taxes that the Democrats keep us under. Jacobsen is apparently wealthy enough to own other real estate which he uses to make money as rental property. He's probably not up against the wall financially. Yet he forgoes hiring Americans because he didn't like the estimate that the licensed contractor gave him to do the work and he obviously wasn't about to get other estimates or do the work himself. As Jacobsen himself states:

I decided there had to be a better (read: cheaper) way.

I got into my pickup truck and drove to the intersection of the Prince William Parkway and U.S. Route 1. There, in the parking area behind the 7-Eleven, was a group of about 20 men who I was sure were day laborers. As I drove up, a number of men immediately rushed forward. "Usted necesita buenos trabajadores, se¿or?" (Do you need good workers, mister?) asked one of the workmen. "S¿," (yes) I replied in my broken Spanish. "Necesito pintores" (I need painters).

He goes on to brag that he offered to pay them ten dollars an hour and buy them lunch from McDonalds. He very carefully avoids telling us that these are illegal aliens, but when you look at the facts--they hang around behind the 7-11, they don't speak English and they agree to work for very low wages, you can draw your own conclusion.

And Jacobsen apparently draws it too, even though he doesn't admit it, because he pays them in untraceable, undocumentable cash. The inference is clear: they don't want to be taxed and he doesn't want any trace of the payments because he also knows that it's illegal to hire someone and pay wages without withholding taxes. Taxes that go to things like our roads, schools and the military, by the way.

In addition to doing his part to put legitimate contractors out of business by undercutting them with unlicensed illegal workers, Jacobsen apparently has no intention of paying his fair share in required taxes.

Again, shame on the Washington Post for supporting this guy and publishing his editorial, but Gary Jacobsen stands on his own as the perfect example of so much of what's wrong in America today. He has no personal integrity, no ethical qualms which force him to do the right thing, and the unmitigated gall to boast about what he's done.

Well here's hoping that the IRS and ICE do their jobs now and give Jacobsen the swift kick in the financial ass that he deserves by way of charging him and levying fines on him for his wrongful conduct. And while ICE is at it, they need to get behind that 7-11 and clean it up, ideally with an arrest team and a big white jail bus that has enough fuel to get every illegal alien found there to the nearest pre-deportation detention facility.
