I got some good feedback on my post about Jefferson County Community Ministries the other day, so I thought that today I'd talk about another great Jefferson County charity that helps local citizens in need. This one is Good Shepherd Caregivers of Shepherdstown, WV.
This group provides volunteers to help disabled individuals with help around the house, transportation to medical appointments, and the loan of medical equipment like wheelchairs and walkers to people who might not otherwise be able to get it. When I got hurt on my job last year, Good Shepherd helped me out for a short period before my insurance provider got rolling, so I can personally vouch for them. And I owe them. So now I'm telling other people about them and asking that anyone in the area consider volunteering with them. People who live outside of Jefferson County can of course always send donations, just like they can to JCCM, and as they are a recognized non-profit, your gifts may be tax deductible.
Take a minute to check 'em out on the web, or give them a call at 304-876-3325, and if you do decide to volunteer or send a few dollars to this worthy cause, let 'em know that Lagniappe and me sent ya. Sending them a gift which will benefit a stranger in need is a great way to share in the true spirit of the Christmas season.
