If you read this site, you'll figure out pretty quickly that I love this great country of ours more than anything. I truly believe that it is the best place on earth due to the freedoms that it offers, the hope and opportunity that are available to all, the diversity of it's citizens, and the quality of life that our economy and security provides to one and all.
However, even in the best of times and the best of places, there are still people in need of help. Here in Jefferson County, WV, there is an organization that works through local churches to bring support to the needy members of the local community and it's called Jefferson County Community Ministries. This organization helps distribute food, clothing, and other needed items such as heating fuel to needy families in the area. It also provides monetary help with rent and utilities to stave off evictions and/or disconnections and they provide meals on wheels to seniors and the disabled who can't get out for themselves. It's not one of those fancy organizations with television commercials and highly-paid staff--it's a small community-outreach organization manned mostly by local volunteers and almost every dime that they take in goes to help people who need it.
This time of year, the demand on JCCM is higher than most other times. Christmas is here and kids need gifts. Winter is also here and utility bills of unemployed or disabled individuals and senior citizens on fixed incomes are going up. JCCM needs help helping these people. I've decided to do my part and support them with donations and some time, but they still need more. So if you're reading this and want to do something nice for the Christmas season, please consider sending a little something along to help a great cause.
The address is: Jefferson County Community Ministries, Incorporated, 238 West Washington Street, Charles Town, WV 25414. The phone number is: (304) 725-3186.
Please let them know that Lagniappe and I referred you.
Isn't our country just the greatest?!? I am proud to be an American!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great community outreach program! More communities need to have this type of service as there truly are many out there in need.
