Child-molesting ex-attorney sues company that helped bring about his capture.

Per this story in the New York Daily News, James Colliton, a fugitive child molesting attorney (now disbarred) is suing his credit card company because their cooperation with the police led to his capture, return to the United States, and apparently caused him to plead guilty to repeatedly raping two little girls and paying another teen for sex. He somehow feels that this should entitle him to over four million bucks because due to said company's disclosure of his approximate location, he was "unlawfully detained" by Canadian authorities. (Read: "he got picked up on the warrant for his arrest after he fled a court's jurisdiction rather than stand trial and assert his innocence.")

This guy's a punk of the first order, and the only one scummier than him is the other attorney who is presumably handling his case against the credit card company.
A disgraced lawyer has sued American Express for $4 million for telling cops where he was hiding while on the run from charges that he had sex with two underage sisters.

James Colliton, once a $500,000-a-year tax lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, contends the credit card company breached its rules by telling authorities that he had used the card in February 2006 to pay for gas in Ontario, Canada.

"Is that why you pay fees to American Express - so they can spy on you?" Colliton said. "They're willing to sell you out."

At the time of his arrest, Colliton was wanted in New York on charges that he had paid a woman so he could have sex with her 13- and 15-year-old daughters. The so-called Lolita Lawyer, who had already served 19 months in jail, pleaded guilty last October to rape and patronizing a prostitute.

In his suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Colliton says Canadian authorities would never have "falsely arrested" or "unlawfully detained" him on immigration charges if American Express hadn't revealed when and where he had used his credit card.

"That's not why I gave them 20 years of fees and thousands of dollars in profits," he said. "They spied on me."

Colliton, 44, has sued Cravath, Swaine & Moore in federal court, claiming the firm owes him $950,000 in salary, bonuses and vacation pay. The registered sex offender also sued Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau and two assistant prosecutors.

"When people stop violating my rights, that's when I will stop filing lawsuits," he said.

Colliton pleaded guilty to statutory-rape charges and served 19 months in jail.
And as you can see, even thought he pled guilty and admitted that the charges against him were true, there's no remorse here for what he's done to those girls. No, it's only about him. Here's the original story about his crime. Does this sound like a guy who should get a check from the very people who helped bring him to justice? And there was a day when people routinely cooperated with the authorities to help capture fugitives. It used to be known as "the right thing to do" and it was not only rewarded, it was practically expected.

But again, honor and integrity aren't concepts that most lawyers are familiar with. I'm just glad that American Express had some. Good job, AMEX.

More here and here.

19 months for victimizing three young girls for over a year. This guy shouldn't get paid. This guy should be taken out in a field and shot.
