Dog names

Still no luck picking that perfect name.
The suggestions thus far:

Alvin
Billy Jack
Blitzkrieg
Commanche
Dog
Gator
Jay
Kirby
Melvin
Muttley
Nixon
Phideaux
Ruger
Schultz
Shadow
Stalker
Steve

I'm at an impasse. And he's not helping.

  1. And Comanche is spelled with 1 "m."

    :-p

    You could name him Cogburn.

  2. Oh, I think you've ruled out way too many suggestions! But, of these, I think Blitzkrieg works perfectly. I had a childhood friend with a Great Dane named Blitz -- it suited him to a tee!

Second choice is Phydeaux -- as a tribute to Lagniappe.

  3. Heller, after the Supreme Court decision that affirmed our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms as a personal right.

  4. Phydeaux is my favorite.
Heller is also a brilliant idea.

but Alvin or Steve, not so much. You DO want the dog to like you, yes?

  5. Don't rush. When we got our current Husky we went for about six weeks searching for a name. We finally settled on Inua Tikaani, which doesn't leap freely to mind until explained. It is from Atabascan, which is one of the Aleutian languages. Inua is "spirit" or ghost and Tikaani is the word for lead wolf in a pack. Since he is gray, brown, black, white and Huskies are close to wolves in the family tree, it is appropriate.

Call name, however, is Teeker. For a while we considered Quinn from that Bob Dylan/Leon Russell classic, "The Might Quinn"--"when Quinn the eskimo gets here, everybody's gonna run to him."

Something will come up and you will suddenly realize it is perfect and unique.

  6. Of course, you can get too unique. Had a friend with a Rhodesian Ridgeback he called Patty. That was short for her full name which was Patty O'Furniture.

  7. Kojak
    Kodak
    Koda
    (yes, there's a theme with the K's here...lol!!)
or JD - for Just Dog

  8. Since he regularly makes a break for freedom perhaps something associated with the Great Escape, like the Cooler King would be appropriate.

    Katia

  9. I can't resist:

    Joules
    NumberThree
    Capt. Morgan
    Hawkeye
    Sirius
    Chance
    Scout
    Chase

I'm sure you'll find the perfect name. Lagniappe was legendary for a dog name. You'll do it again.
    Take your time,

  11. I've gotta agree with Ed, sooner or later he WILL name himself... :-)

  12. Of course, if you name him Heller, in 8 years or so he'll be Old Heller. Just keep him away from the rabid critters at that point.

  13. The best dog I've ever owned was a female Boxer we later found was inbreeded. While she had her fault's her love, devotation and courage were unquestioned. She twice saved my wife's life, saved my grandaughter and unknown to me stood at my side when I faced down hostile tresspassers. Her name was Trouble, I still miss her.

  14. How about Thor .. or Aegis .. I see both as fitting, the Dog of Lightning (ha) or Your Shield!

  15. How about "Reload"? I'm basing this on your next post about his behavior with the tumbler and the scrap brass.
