Can't we?

So far today, I've heard from two nay-sayers who claim that we do not have the military ability to unilaterally impose a "no-fly" zone over Libya. They claim that we don't have the resources to do this.

Well a man that I consider to be an expert on such things says otherwise.

Frankly, if Ed Rasimus, a man who has been the pointy edge of the spear for a long time, says that we can do it with what we've got, then we can almost certainly do it with what we've got. I'll take his word over that of some anonymous internet poster any day.

As for me, I'm thinking that it's way past time to turn off Ghadaffi's aerial "death and destruction" campaign and see what the people of that country can do about changing their own leadership. And any real president who truly believes in America's role as the defender of Freedom and purveyor of Democracy would have done it days ago.

Pathetically, it seems that the only "leadership" that Obama is willing to demonstrate is against American citizens in Wisconsin...and even then he's not man enough to own it.

  1. We could, but that would violate the Obama Doctrine. Can't go-it-alone you know, far too Bush-like.

Of course while we have the capability to do it now, we may run into a shortage of fighters due to the budget and program cuts Obama's people have pushde through....

  3. Ed is correct, we've done it before (mid-80s) I was there... Of course that was under Reagan, so ENTIRELY different mentality.

  4. It's not about whether or not we can. It's about whether or not we can afford it.

  5. There is no question in my mind that the United States military forces have more than sufficient wherewithal to unilaterally impose a "no-fly" over Libya.

What I question is the wisdom of doing so.

From my perspective, Ghadaffi (or however you want to spell it) is probably less worse than the administration that would fill the vacuum once he vacates or (more likely) is vacated.

Maybe we ought to let Libyan-on-Libyan violence weaken Libya a bit before we go in and no-fly it.

Then, we should have the Marines and/or the Seabees take over the oil facilities, get them pumping oil, and divide the revenues 3 ways: One-third to the US Department of Defense; One-third to the oil company(ies) that does the drilling and pumping and transport; and the remaining one-third held in a fund which the new Libyan administration would get, in measured doses, during and subject to its good behavior.

    Just my opinion.

  6. Sure we can afford it, Nicki.

We just have to cut out a few hundred billion dollars' worth of Barky's union paybacks or de-fund his socialist health-care industry take-over scheme.
