Joe Biden gets richer off the taxpayers by billing the Secret Service for protecting him.

Disgusting and appalling.

Joe Biden earned $21,000 in 2011 by charging his own secret Service detail rent.

Vice President Joe Biden last year earned $20,900 in rental income from the Secret Service, which is paying him to host agents on his property so they can protect him.

Most high-profile people in need of protection pay people to keep them safe. Government officials are allowed to have taxpayers pick up the tab. Biden is unique in that he actually gets paid by his bodyguards for the right to protect him.

Biden’s tax records list rental income of $20,900 from a “cottage” on is property, which is reportedly being leased by the Secret Service and paid for at a rate that could earn him even more money next year.

Biden took deductions for mortgage interest and taxes that allowed him to report only $12,653 of the amount on his federal tax return.

Of course, the Bidens badly need the money. They only had an adjusted gross income of $379,035 last year. This probably also explains why they gave less than 1.5 percent of their income to charity.

Among the $5,540 in charitable donations were $1,000 to the UN World Food Program; $1,080 to the Northern Virginia Community College Alumni Scholarship Fund; $1,000 to the Diocese of Wilmington; Delaware; $360 to a breast health initiative launched by Dr. Jill Biden; and $50 to the Wounded Warrior Project.

And he and Obama want to tax US more? How about just cutting this expense out and making Biden put up for his own bodyguard force like any other wealthy American who wants one has to do?

  1. I think that's the same thing that Billary did with their Westchester residence.

Do as they say, not as they do.

If a Secret Service agent brings along a hooker to the guest compound, who's entitled to the $47?

  2. You know as well as anybody that longstanding appropriations law principles would not allow the Secret Service to accept the housing at no cost. It is disingenuous to suggest the Bidens or the Service has a choice here

  3. That's just disgusting. These guys need to be thrown out of office, pronto.

  4. @ Katherine: The issue here is the appearance of impropriety. If it looks wrong, it should be avoided in principle. Now Smirky the Veep could show some class and donate that amount to charity to alleviate this, but Mr. "Tax America" is and always has been incredibly stingy with his own cash, as have been the Obamas before they decided to re-make their image for public consumption.

  5. It's the donations to charity, or lack thereof, that I find offensive. Cheap creep.

  6. At least the money stays in the US domestic economy, instead of contributing to the trade deficit. For the Secret Service, it is certainly an improvement over the stimulus they gave to the economic health of the oldest profession in Cartagena.

[And Donald, perhaps the Secret Service agents who spent the money in Cartagena should have been assigned to protect Eliot Spitzer!]

  7. A thousand dollars to the UN, but only fifty bucks to Wounded Warriors?

If I didn't know already, this would tell me a whole lot about Joe Biden.
