New challenge

Down at the bottom of the left sidebar, I have a new category: Airports that I've flown into.

This is a list of the airports that I've flown my plane into. (I'm not counting earlier flights in rental planes or friends' aircraft.)

So far, having had the plane a bit over a year and putting roughly a hundred hours on it, I've had it into 25 different airports in six states. Most I've been into multiple times, some only once. My goal is to reach 100 different airports on that list, and the purpose is to challenge me to keep going for the new or different as a means of keeping my skills sharp.

And if you're near an airport that's in the area of some of these, drop me a comment and maybe we can grab lunch.

  1. That's a good idea, and will broaden your horizons, literally!!!

  2. Cool. Afraid you're going to have to head further west to catch my lunchbreak, however

  3. @ Jennifer: Don't be so quick to rule it out. Oklahoma's OK by me. ;-)

  4. I'm a little surprised you haven't ventured around Lake Michigan to Wisconsin, especially during EAA. Although that sort of trip would require some reservations way in advance for stuff like hotel & rental car.

There have been lots of cool engine sounds whirring through the air this week. Wonder if that really big four engine plane I saw out the kitchen window the other day was a Connie?

Wishing happy and safe flights to you wherever you choose to go!

  6. Fredericksburg (more Civil War stuff!) is about 30 minutes away from me, and Tappahannock is around a hour.

  7. I need to go to the library in Princess Anne, MD, to read some documents in a collection of papers they have... Can you fit bikes in the cargo area?

  8. If you are going to make it all the way to OK, then you can head a little south to Denton, TX (DTO) on your way home. Hope you don't mind German Shepherds (we have 5- used to have 2, you can figger the rest...)
If I have some lead time, I can set up a # of different things (some shootin' of course) Airport is about 3 miles from our place. Would look forward to picking your mind about a few things. I have a buddy who is a retired airline pilot who has a FF licence (think that may keep the nSa from picking that up?) and a vintage Tom gun. Might be fun.

  9. I'm seeing a paucity of airports preceded by TX. Maybe you're saving them for when the wx gets a little more problematic in West Virginia and less so here. I can agree with that, as I just finished a 2 day 1300 mile, 750 cubic feet move of my sister's stuff to here. Temp today is 98 with 75%, I'm a little drained.

  10. @ Mrs. S: Almost went there this year. But next year, definitely!

@Rick: Planning on Indiana soon too. Some lovely armed blogger ladies in Indianapolis or thereabouts warrant a visit. You'll have to join us.

@ Nancy. That flight will happen, sooner rather than later. I'll let you know.

@ PH: Nope. No room for bikes. If I could stow a bike, I'd be unstoppable. But many small airpoorts lloan courtesy cars, so let me know when you want to go.

@ Mike: I was actually planning Denton, Texas back when Ed Rasimus was still with us. He was right there.

@ Juvat: If I ever make it back down there--flying or driving--first round of drinks is on me.

  11. Murph, if you ever get on up to the Northeast, I'm a hop, skip and a jump from PVD.

    'Twould be an honor.

  15. I was saddened to see that Maj. Ed passed away, it would have been an honor to meet him. If you do plan to come thru here, by all means, let me know and we'll put you up. Murphy too, if he's along. I have a couple of pilot friends, and it appears that DTO has good accommodations for the plane. Lotsa fun stuff to do and see close by.
