Murphy's Day Out

Murphy got an outing today. We went to the county dog pound.

Murphy got to play with the staff for a bit.
"I take ur toy!"

And Murphy got to hang out in their office for a while. He immediately made himself at home, helping himself to their water cooler.
"I drink ur water!"

The reason for the visit:
I'm thinking that Murphy should have a pet of his own. He needs company when I'm gone and someone else to play with would be nice.

This four year old female just came into the pound, an owner surrender from a guy who said that he'd shoot her if the pound didn't take her.
They seem to get along well enough after two visits together. The first visit yesterday she was pretty timid when Murphy sniffed her and pushed her around a bit, but today she started showing a bit more assertiveness and let Murphy know that she wasn't putting up with his crap.
They're about the same size, or at least they will be when she's fed properly and gains a bit more weight.

She's smart though. She kept looking out through that fence trying to catch sight of the tractor working in a field behind a barn next to the pound. She's aware that things exist beyond her immediate surroundings.

And she learns real quick, picking this up from Murphy right off the bat.

And they both like treats. Go figure.
All-in-all, they got on pretty well together both times. If things keep working out, she may come home with us next week for a trial. Then we'll see how it works on the Murphster's turf.

Stay tuned...

  1. Awesome, I hope it works out for you and for them. Having 2 overbearing attention seeking fuzzies is much better than one.

  15. Two to get in trouble, but two to keep each other occupied. Murphy, I think this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...

We're looking at getting another cat to keep Kili occupied. Sooner or later, the right amount of feistiness and laid-back will show up.

  16. Good luck. You're going to have to switch from the man-on-dog to zone defense once you're surrounded and outnumbered.

  17. Uh oh! I foresee double trouble for the crazy cat lady and a gorgeous companion for Murphy. She looks like a great girl in need of some food and love. Oh and what intelligent is lurking behind those beautiful eyes?
