Going their own ways

Belle recently discovered my guest bedroom, which has been largely closed off for the winter to save on heating. It's upstairs, has it's own balcony and offers a fantastic view of the yard and the surrounding area. And Belle is in love with it and has made it her new den.
The nose-print-covered window behind her...it was clean until recently.

Murphy used to practically live in this room until I started putting stuff on the guest bed to deny him use of it. But Belle seems to like it for the window. She's spent most of the last two days up there, but being somewhat insecure yet, she still runs back downstairs every time she hears me moving around. And once she gets a petting and determines that I am neither leaving nor dispensing treats, she goes back up. In a way, it's almost like I just have one dog again...or rather it would be if Murphy wasn't spending the afternoon on his dog bed in the bedroom.
Now it's just...Dogs? What dogs? Ain't seen one in nearly twenty minutes.

Of course if I get lonely, all I need do is go into the kitchen and rattle the Milk-Bone box; I'll have both of them sitting in front of me before I even set it back down.

  2. Hey Murphy,

At least Belle isn't hiding behind your rack of rifles.....That is a good thing....Right?

    1. Now that she's got more confidence, she's not back there as much, but if I'm working in there, that's where she'll be.

    1. Yeah, that and self-confidence. When Murphy first came to stay, he was "velcro dog" too, always stuck to me and underfoot. I was his world. Eventually he got more comfortable here and less dependent and needy and now he pretty much does his own thing. Belle is just doing when he did and she's just now starting to relax and loosen up a bit. And it's good.

  5. Ah, yes. Devious dogs! They have teamed up and devised a strategy to make you lonely so that you will give them treats in exchange for their company!
