Sounds fair to me.

In Texas, a guy just got 18 months in jail for peeing on The Alamo in San Antonio.

Man who 'whizzed' on Alamo to do time

18 months, with no chance of early parole. Can you imagine what it's going to be like to be this guy when the other inmates start asking him what he's in for and how long he's gonna be there?

  1. I'm sure the time will just whizz by for him.

  2. 4K in damages for urinating on the wall???WTH??? Conviction and jai time absolutely warranted, fine and probation, you bet. But then perhaps the 4K damages is the fine as well. Still I'd think a public display at the Alamo with head and hands in stocks for 18 months more appropriate punishment.

    1. A lot of that $4K comes from the National Park Service calling in a restoration expert to assess the damage and recommend the clean-up procedures. This person is always a high GS level and if they spend a day or a week on it, their salary for that period gets factored into the restitution amount.

  4. Fair? Fair!? I'd say he got a lenient judge. There's just some things that aren't done. Like Leroy Brown messin' 'round with the wife of a jealous man, Jim gettin' his what fer' from Slim, and tuggin' on Superman's cape.

Well, it's like that here in Texas - ya don't piss on the Alama. Not. At. All.

We also wouldn't cotton to folks pissin' on the San Jacinto Monument (an obelisk 12' taller than the Washington Monument, if memory serves), nor defilin' the image of Lillie Langtry. The penalty for the latter would be to get killed. Dead-dead.

On the other hand, even though Texas' capital rotunda rises higher than it's D.C. counterpart, it's in [Keep] Austin [Weird], liberal bastion of the Lone Star State. As they say of the college in Austin "Steers & Q----s - No Place but Austin". I wouldn't think it'd be good manners to piss on the Texas Capitol, but maybe that could be let off with a reasonable fine.

  6. Had my in-laws come down and visit a few years ago. As we walked up to the Alamo, I reminded them to remove their hats when they entered. My teenage nephew looked at me like I was nuts. We walked in, he left his hat on, and took about two steps further in. At that point, the hat was removed from his head by an elderly woman who reminded him to "Show some respect". The kid was utterly speechless. As we were leaving, I kinda languished a bit, until the rest had left, walked up to the woman and thanked her, saying seeing him shut up like that made my day. She just smiled.
