Today, my wonderful hosts took me up to Zion National Park. I can honestly say that I've never seen anything like it before. The place was beautiful beyond description. And yes, pictures will follow once I'm home. This iPad that I'm posting on just isn't set up for that but I'm getting plenty of photos.
At Zion, we hiked several of the rails, covering a bit over six miles, not counting the vertical rise and fall of the trails. There were majestic mountains and sheer cliffs, all sorts of desert plant life, animals, and a crystal clear and perfectly cool river to relax in. It could not have been a better day.
Oh wait--yes it could. It could be better with bar-be-cue, and Eric and Lu knew just the place. We capped the day at Sonny's in Hurricane, UT, and then went back to walk Angus, who'd stayed home all day due to stupid Park Service rules that bar well-behaved dogs while allowing the most unruly children in. I never will understand that.
Great day. Great, great day.
Those unruly children should be replaced by hamsters. They will too soon be able to vote.
ReplyDeleteThere are some beautiful, empty spaces in the National Parks in that area. My best friend was a ranger at Arches for about 15 years, so I always used to get preferential treatment and personal tours there. He's moved to Mesa Verde now, and his wife works at Hovenweep National Monument, so I'm going to have to go check those out one of these days. Have fun in the West! If you were going to be in N Utah, I'd zip down from Boise to have a brew with you.
ReplyDeleteJon, that would have been great. Sadly I won't be going any farther north on this expedition. But next year...and I do loves me some Idaho panhandle, so that could happen again as well.
ReplyDeleteGlad y'all had fun! And yes, Zion is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteHey! Come see us in MT!!!! There's even a little airport here. White Sulphur Springs MT at Conestoga Campground. We work Fri & Sat and drive the mountains on the other days.
ReplyDeleteWish I could. I looked at it, but it's just too far for the time I have. But I'll catch you two again soon enough. Count on it.
