Dogs Like Cocoa. Who Knew?

I sure didn't. But I figured it our as soon as I walked into the house and saw that Murphy and Belle had found a box of cocoa packets and torn them all open on the rug.

I'm trying to talk myself out of selling both of them on Craigslist as I vacuum the mess up.

At least they left me one unopened packet. Cheers.

  1. Good thing they're big dogs and it was a relatively small amount. Chocolate is toxic to dogs.

Just a couple of ounces of dark chocolate will kill a small ankle biter.

  4. I think you'll recall a chapter from the Book of Barkley where he got into my suitcase with my chocolate protein powder. NOT a pretty site when he was done with it. Glad all is well and you just have a mess, not sick dogs.

  6. Ever consider getting and using more secure cabinets? hahaha Are you sure these dogs don't have opposable thumbs?
Since your kitchen is one flight of steps less than where we took that gun safe, I'd even offer to help you carry them in the house! (maybe)

    1. Wouldn't have helped. This box of cocoa was on the couch. I left it there the night before when I brought it home from work.

  7. Be aware that cocoa powder contains a very large quantity of theobromine, the substance in chocolate thats toxic to dogs. Just 3oz of cocoa powder is enough to spike a 75lb dog into the "risking death" range. Thankfully most commercial hot chocolate packets contain as much "other stuff" as they do cocoa powder, so if they aren't acting sick by now then they didn't ingest enough to give them a problem. But considering how much trouble you've had with the dogs getting into things you really ought to consider some heavy duty baby locks!

Maybe you need a safe for the hot cocoa
