Lucky Harrison Ford

So Harrison Ford, who , at age 72, is literally one the oldest action heroes in the world (if we don't count Old NFO), cracked up a vintage Ryan PT-22 on a golf course in California yesterday when it's engine quit on him. The poor PT-22 will probably not buff out.

A PT-22:

But still, Ford in incredibly lucky. I mean, what are the odds of finding a golf course that doesn't have Barack Obama on it when your aircraft engine fails?

  1. It was a beautiful aircraft. A shame, tho' glad he survived.

  2. It's too bad that Obama wasn't there on the 8th hole.

  3. Go Googlemap the area around SMO - to be able to put a plane with a failing engine down on the only open space off airport and walk away from it is skillful flying - I suspect he clipped the trees with that plane's gangly undercarriage which is why it is so crumpled.

  4. Could you imagine the headlines? "Secret service agents shoot Han Solo down, crash landed on golf course. "

  5. All reports in indicate that Han was flying Solo.

It appears he did a darn good job with that landing and I hope he recovers fully.

  6. Yeah, glad when anybody walks away (more or less) from a crash. And he does seem to have done some action hero flying to put it down as safe as possible. But that photo makes me sad. It was so pretty.

  7. Yes, indeed! Did you hear his radio traffic? Calm and collected. Of course, he lives in my home state of Wyoming on a bazillion dollar ranch and so I am partial to his safety. He buys local and was most handsome eye candy at the gas station. Nuts. Did I mention I moved away a couple years ago? I miss those Harrison Ford moments. Luckily, I can watch him on the big screen. It was a beautiful plane and probably top notch.

    +1 on Aaron's humor. Hilarious.

  8. I'm glad he was ok, but I'm really sad he broke that pretty aircraft.

  9. He handled it perfectly. He walked away... Doesn't get any better and the airplane might be used again!

  11. Well the airplane in question being of tube and fabric construction fulfilled it's design specifications and kept the pilot alive. It's also restorable but that'll take several years of doing and many thousands of dollars. God smiled upon an ageing actor that day.

  12. The news reports are all calling it "a vintage fighter".
