No permitless concealed carry in West Virginia

Despite bipartisan support in both the State House and State Senate for SB 347, a bill which would have allowed any non-felon non-domestic abuser citizen to carry a concealed pistol without a permit, Democrat Governor Ray Tomblin basically kicked gun owners and legislators from both parties in the junk and vetoed the bill.

We were very close to joining Alaska, Arizona, Vermont and Wyoming, states that already allow their law-abiding citizens to carry without a permit, but one man decided to block it.

Taking the state legislature away from the Democrats this past election went a long ways towards putting the power back into the hands of the people, but it seems that so long as the Nanny Party controls the Governor's Mansion, freedom and representative democracy are just going to have to wait.

More here.

  1. That sucks. Permit required here in NC though as well. I'm teaching the class this Sunday. I have many mixed feelings about this issue. i need to get that Blog post out on it.

  2. Entirely possible they will over-ride. They recently found a calculator, figured out that 20 weeks is 5 months, did a little homework and decided that ripping the head, arms, and legs off a child at that stage of development is a horrific thing to do. They not only passed the pain-capable abortion bill but overrode Tomlin's veto. Much to the horror of people who are fine with said dismemberment of a baby.

  4. The Texas Senate approved the expansion of CHL version of OC this week. After approval by the House (fully expected), Gov. Abbott has indicated he will sign it into law.

I don't know that I would want to frequently buckle on a hip holster, but having the flexibility to carry something other than can be fully or readily concealed (e.g., 1911, P90, J-K Redhawk - my counterpart to your S&W 57, or even a .357) is a plus.

I have a Tandy Leather shoulder rig kit that I may need to start tooling and stitching...

  7. We have the permit requirement here and it's not that big of a deal. I get why you are upset, but it's no different than the requirement to carry your driver's license in your wallet when you drive. It's a petty battle that was won and like everything else, we need to worry about the bigger ones. If every law abiding citizen has the right to carry concealed regardless of what state they live in one day, having this bs requirement to carry a "pass" isn't so horrible in the grand scheme.

  8. That's the way it's increasingly going to be here in the US: one party controls the state/national government, the other party gnashes its teeth and waits for its turn (and revenge).
