Monday snow day.

Called the Sheriff's office this morning. The lady who answered sounded like she was going to lose it when I asked if they had any idea when we here might expect some snow removal. Apparently the calls demanding help have been off the charts. She sounded almost grateful when I reassured her that I was all set to wait things out but was only calling out of curiosity. "I'm supplied and quite comfortable here," I told her. Sounds like I'm one of the relative few out of the non-stop callers that that office has been getting. Many people are demanding immediate rescue and/or complaining that they don't have food. Seriously, people? We all saw this storm coming a week out. How could any of you not have taken basic steps to ensure that you could get through this?

Oh yeah...Our local Dem voters. I forgot about the ones who always think that the government is going to take care of them. Surprise, fools. Obama ain't coming and even the state and county folks are hindered by the snow and backlogged by priority rescues. Sheriff's phone lady told me to hope for the promised warmer weather later this week but in any case it is likely to be a few days before they get up to us folks on the mountain.

Glad I got books and booze.

Some folks are getting impatient though.
"Where is that UPS truck? Where is the garbage man? Where is ANYBODY? Please, God...I need someone to bark at!"

  1. Maybe some of your neighbors just waited too long. I saw pictures of supermarkets in Alexandria (where I no longer live, thank God), and the shelves were empty. I thought they were pictures of Caracas.
I always keep a sufficient supply of food, books, and alcohol handy, just in case. It always pays to be prepared.

    1. Exactly. I topped off supplies but I always maintain enough that I could have ridden this out without bothering. And we didn't even lose power. I was ready for that but a few days here with no power in this weather would likely kill some people off who didn't bother to prepare.

  6. Sounds like a great vacation to me. Curl up by the fire with a good book and enjoy not having to deal with stupid people for a few days. Maybe get a big pot of chili or stew simmering...mmm!

  11. Hey! Stop lumping all us Democrats in with the local slackjaws who couldn't prepare for a two night stay let alone several. Shannondale and Beyond has some good photos of Mission Road, Gate 1 roads. You probably could have been plowed out up there if not for an idiot in a fancy newish black truck who got stuck on Sylvan forcing the plow to turn around.

  12. I do believe locals with their own equipment are going to have us clear before the state gets here. Which is how it should be.

As for me, I've still got plenty of wine and oreos. And I'm at least a month away from having to touch the Spam.

  13. In this day and age of real-time weather reports (with satellite image maps), there is no excuse for not anticipating foul weather. And, on general principles, I always keep more than a minimum amount of vital fluids such as laundry detergent, window washer fluid, schnapps, and beer.
