Oregon Bundy mess explodes. 1 dead and Bundy boys held.

Details are sketchy, but it appears that when the police made a traffic stop on a car containing the Bundy brothers, someone--probably someone in that car--started shooting.

One dead, Bundys arrested after confrontation with FBI on highway

Arrested: Both Ammon and Ryan Bundy and their stolen valor fake Marine "bodyguard" Brian Cavalier, among others.

All are apparently facing felony charges of conspiracy to impede officers of the US from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation or threats at present, and more charges are likely against them and any of their followers dumb enough to stick around at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge that they took over three and a half weeks ago. I'm guessing that that occupation is pretty much over as well, what with the leaders in jail.

Idiots.

Idiots with guns making the rest of us look bad by association.

And no, I do not support those who think that just because they have guns and hate the government, they can decide for themselves which laws to obey and which laws to ignore. That was never the intent of our Founding Fathers. Those wise men gave us a Judicial Branch, an Electoral System and a Free Press and Right to Speak Out as means of addressing grievances. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say "Go ahead and disregard any laws that inconvenience you personally", nor does it ok trying to kill police officers who are acting lawfully.

Looks like the next piece of federal property that Ammon and Ryan Bundy will be occupying will be a cell in a federal prison.

Whether said idiots are from the government or the occupiers.

    1. Might still. Word is the rest of them aren't coming out of the wildlife center and many have brought their wives and kids to hide behind.

Difference though is that at Waco, the feds attacked people on their own property who were doing nothing to warrant it. Here, the militia idiots took over federal property and dared the law to do something about it. This one is much harder to get behind.

  4. I suspect from a quote I heard today that the dead man was both armed and resisted arrest. Unfortunately and ironically, the story put out by the Bundy family is Ferguson Redeux.

  6. Those wise men, the Founding Fathers and the Framers, gave us the ability to overthrow tyranny when it rears its ugly head. It has done so and continues to raise its head higher and higher. Someone is going to start a damned revolution, because neither they who signed the Declaration nor they who framed the Constitution ever meant for our government to become the oppressive tyranny that it is now. Please don't even attempt to tell me that, when they revolted, they wanted our government, or our nation, to become what they are now nor that the Constitution actually gives the government the authority that allows for either.

    1. I'm hardly a fan of federal power over the citizenry, but even I'm having a hard time seeing any "tyranny" here. Were these guys all sitting in their own homes doing nothing to no one only to have the FBI kick down their doors just because of their politics or their gun ownership? That I'd call tyranny. But there guys drove half way across the country and seized federal property then dared the feds to do something about it. Was anyone anywhere really surprised by this result? And had the dead one surrendered like the others instead of jumping out of his truck after a failed attempt at fleeing, he'd probably still be alive today too. Trying to be sympathetic or at least open-minded here, but not seeing a way to excuse or overlook the fact that they started this and escalated it. The Founding Fathers created a government that came factory-equipped with checks and balances on it's power. These guys apparently chose to ignore all that and just started taking property that didn't belong to them and making threats, actual or implied. They called down the thunder.

  7. Glen:

You may be right, but occupying land that is Not Yours, for a cause where the principal of that cause Doesn't Want You There, and where you cannot articulate your goal is stupid. Breaking the law for no gain is stupid. Breaking the law for nor reason that you can explain is stupider.

This isn't a Waco or a Ruby Ridge. Those people just wanted to be left alone on their own land. Weren't looking for a fight. The folks in Burns ARE looking for a fight. The folks last night got their fight...

And the rest of 'em are likely to find one as well.

  9. I agree with your assessment. This is not the time for Yosemite Sams to come out of the woodwork when gun owners are under the watchful eyes of politicians their ridiculous rhetoric.

    1. What it looks like is a classic SBC (Suicide By Cop).
He had his hands up, then dropped them in a textbook weapon-drawing move. The officers then did exactly what you would have done.
If there were video of Michael Brown doing the exact same thing, all these "he was murdered!" types would say, "See? Officer Wilson was right!" Which he was. The facts of the situation don't change according to the politics of the actors.

    2. That's something I've noticed in social media concerning this. Every one of those black guys whose deaths were used as an excuse to riot or to target LE would still be alive today if they had simply obeyed the orders LE gave them when they gave them. Same in this instance. The Bundy crew were known to be armed and they tried to flee. Only one died - as he reached for something - the rest are alive and well. The only difference between this situation is color and politics but somehow this time the same people who think St. Swisher's shooting was justified are calling it ambush and murder.
