Spent a fair bit of the evening sitting in a patio chair outside Vaso on Frenchmen Street, drinking reasonably-priced draft beers and enjoying the jazz band playing just behind me inside. And these are my new sidewalk friends.
Yeah, this is why I moved here.
I'm curious - don't you hail from there, originally?
ReplyDeleteI mean LAGINAPPE, and all?
Or just an affinity for Acadian culture?
Inquiring minds want to know...
:-)

I lived here for a brief bit back in the day, with my first Shepherd, Oliver. Fell in love with the place and the culture surrounding it, even though New Orleans was and is a third-world city in the middle of this beautiful state.
DeleteJust a suggestion, but you may want to change your headline to something like "Pleasant night" after what happened in Nice. You don't want to confuse people.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I put that up last night before I saw the news.
DeleteNever confuse New Orleans french with Acadian french. Oh, there is some bleed-over, but basically, New Orleans is a continental French/Spanish preserve, where the Acadians were ejected from Canada about two generations after they settled there. Some of my forebears washed ashore in south Louisiana following Le Grand Dérangement The French Acadians and the French in New Orleans may be left-hand cousins, but you'll never get them to admit it.
ReplyDeleteOh, for sure. Big difference between Acadians (Cajuns) and the cheese-eating surrender-monkeys in Europe.
DeleteHeard a European French couple try to talk to some Cajuns once. Parisian French vs. Cajun French. Neither could understand the other and I could understand neither. Was neat.
Paw is right... LOL
