Just another day in New Orleans.

Took the dogs out for a New Orleans-style breakfast this morning.

After a while, we wandered down Frenchmen Street and into the Quarter proper, but it was just so hot that I felt bad having them out.

Then I saw this car, and didn't feel so bad. Someone actually drives this boat around.

Grabbed a muffuletta for lunch from Central Grocery. Yum!
We walked down past Jackson Square where Sachmo SummerFest was going on. Had to sit outside and listen because there was a sign saying that I could not bring guns, marijuana or dogs in. So I hosed them off at the horse trough and grabbed a seat in the shade to eat my delicious round sammich.

Wet Belle...but cooler Belle.

Then it was back home to the air conditioning.

On the way back, I saw this creature and fell madly in love...

Sadly I didn't get her name, number or tag#, but it reminded me again that I love this dysfunctional third-world city. If nothing else, it's seldom boring here.

  1. Yep, that last one is NOLA all the way... LOL

  2. At first I thought the strangest part of the picture was the Macy's bag (a significant inconsistency with the rest of her)... but I think the donkey hanging by the garter strap would really be the opening question.

    1. I want to know where one gets a leopard-print motorcycle, and at what speed do those wings either come apart or generate enough lift to depart the pavement.

    2. Probably a normal motorcycle with a wrap on it. Hopefully one pays for a more professional application than her bike, which looks like it was applied a little drunkenly. Not that you'd notice, with the rest of the getup.

(Also, two helmets and a tail? And that's a unicorn, not a donkey?)

  3. Muffuletta??

Sounds like a small exhaust system component....

    2. Yep, they're a great sandwich and CG is a neat sore. Even better you can buy most of the fixings there (or some other stores) and make your own sandwich at home.

    3. Make me do my own research, huh?

OK, so I "looked it up".

It's either a sub sandwich served inside of a type of flat bread, or the same flat bread is stuffed full of seafood.

Just glad to hear you're enjoying one of the local delicacies, Murph.

I had a SoCal local delicacy for dinner last night.

      Double-Double with grilled onions only

      Fries well done

      Large vanilla shake

    4. drjim, you make them sound so ordinary, but I assure you that they are not, especially when the olive oil permeates everything...I'll send you one but in return, I want a sack full of hot, fresh in-and-outs, dammit!

  4. My gal makes a better muffeletta than Central Grocery. Yeah, they're the big name, but they're resting on their laurels. Try one frish, hot, just out of the sandwich press. OhmiGawd!

  5. Central Grocery's is a good one, but we prefer the ones from Verdi Mart.

  6. I've both bought and made my own olive salad for making muffalettas here in Idaho. The ones at CG are memorable because they're big enough for two people, and the place has that old world atmosphere.

  7. Downtown LA in 1980, that car wouldn't have gotten much notice. Not with cars with full coverage carpeting on the body. Shag grass, anyone?

I haven't been back since. Well, downtown, anyway.
