Parade. In the rain.

So last night, several parades rolled through New Orleans. The rain didn't stop most of them. Parades are huge productions. So I made sure to be out there in the rain too, to show my support as much as to see them.

Plus with fewer people, that should mean more "throws", or loot tossed off the floats, for me.

The typical parade float--if there is such a thing--is a two-story platform done up very ornately in accordance with a Krewe theme of the year. It's different each year and every one of these will be taken apart and remanufactured next year as a different float. And they are loaded with costumed krewe members who throw beads, cubs, stuff toys and all sorts of other crap treasure into the crowds.

And the reward: Almost more stuff than I could carry home.
No idea what I'm going to do with it all but it's mine, dammit. I earned it.

Still another week of this to go. Blogging will be sparse but interesting until them.

  1. Have the dogs seen the "rewards" yet? I figure they may want to excise a tax or two. :)

    1. I pay plenty of Milkbone Danegeld to keep them away from it.

  2. Mardi Gras cups are perfect for serving mixed drinks to guests. If they happen to forget and leave with them, no big loss. I usually go through 8-10 per year, and friends and family end up with them.

    1. Hey!! And FYI, I'm already planning to recycle by throwing it at other parades. I'm in one this afternoon and will bring some of this. Dogs get the plushy toys though once I inspect them.

  4. I think that it would make me a hoarder as well. At least for a while. The Parades are very cool. Thank you for the report.

  5. I had a crap-ton of Mardi Gras swag from the one I went to. I went to as many parades as I could. But that was a very long time ago and I was much younger.
