Things you learn while walking your dog

Vicious Pit Bull mixes hit from behind without provocation.

Murphy's sleeping off the anesthesia following a suture job this afternoon. Poor guy.

And poor me. The vet wouldn't take my Blue Cross card.

Sigh.

  2. Oh goodness! I'm so sorry to hear that Murphy got hurt, but I'm glad that he's okay.

I'm sure that you already know this, but years ago, I had a white German Shepherd who got attacked like that when he was still young. After that, other animals and Aspen (my dog) just didn't mix. Aspen ended up being very aggressive and I couldn't let him around other dogs and cats(though oddly enough, he was very good with puppies and small children).

My advice is to be sure to get him back out there around other animals who DON'T bite so that Murphy stays well socialized.

He's such a sweet, beautiful dog and again, I'm so glad that he's okay.

  3. Sorry to hear about the attack! I'm sure Murphy will recover. I'd send pigs ears to Murphy if I knew where you were.

  4. Ow! For both of you!

I 2nd Southern Belle's advice, as soon as possible he needs some exposure to safe dogs.

  5. Best wishes to Murphy for a speedy recovery - maybe an ice cream cone would lift his spirits?

  6. Ouch! Hope he heals fast - I prescribe a crumbles of bacon on ice cream treat...heck, that sounds good to me...

  7. No justification for shooting the pit bull?

  8. My sympathies to Murphy, I'm guessing that this was in an area too "civilized" for the proper response to an unprovoked dog attack to be: shoot, shovel, and shut-up.

  9. That sucks... Hope you 'took care' of said pit bull mix... Hope Murphy is up and around quickly.

  10. Do you know who the Pit belongs to so you can recover damages?

I join with those are hoping you gave the offender a .45ACP headache.

  11. Had my Husky attacked decades ago when living in Germany by a Ger. Shepherd kept by the guy down the street who had a macho fixation. Reported to Polizei, but American vs German inevitably loses in those. I did learn enough German however, to tell the guy that if I ever saw his dog loose again he would be dead.

Make a police report (or sheriff, if in unincorporated area). File charges and follow up. (But you knew all that already.)

Get well Murphy! Best wishes for quick recovery from Teeker.

  12. Drat, hope he does ok.

I certainly hope the pitbull owner will be ponying up for the repair costs.

wv: litivcati - an cat owned by a lawyer that sues stupid pitbull owners.

  13. I'm with Bob.
I pray for your puppy's rapid healing.
And that you put the attacker down.

  14. Thanks everyone. Murphy's doing better this morning. It was just one gash, fortunately. The pit mix was on a leash, as was Murphy, and the owner, who is a pretty decent neighbor, moved quickly to help me separate the two. The neighbors recently rescued this dog and are working with it, so if they follow through and cover the vet bill, socialize it and keep it controlled in the future, we'll call it a done deal. But yes, the Pit almost caught a Hydrashock, and certainly would have if it had been some unknown loose dog or even if the neighbor hadn't been right in there trying to get his dog back under control.

  15. Bummer, I hope he gets well fast. Perhaps some vanilla oreos would help?

And I am glad to hear the owner was nearby and the other dog was actually on a leash (gasp!!!) and the owner has taken responsibility.

  16. That is a better story when you've got a responsible owner for the other dog. Now for some defensive training for Murphy.

OK, Murphy, listen up: Condition White is for libs and wimps. No one survives in Condition White. Condition Yellow is an awareness of your surroundings at all times and an estimation of threat potential. When we get to Condition Red, I'll be depending upon you to take care of your part...

  17. Glad the boy's doing well. There's just no way to predict something like that.
