Heavy-Duty Counter Surfing

OK, after a couple of years, I've grown used to Murphy surfing the kitchen counters and snatching off whatever strikes his fancy whenever I've been careless enough to leave unattended food or food wrappers out and leave the Lair. I know that he's going to take these things if given the chance, so I make a real effort not to leave out anything that it's reasonable to assume that he might like.

Now after two years, I know that he likes bread, butter, soup cans and other tasty things, but this time even I had to do a double-take when I walked in and found a frying pan on his dog bed.

Yep. A frying pan.

I'd cooked a steak the night before and left the pan on the stove, and apparently Murphy thought that it would be a nice thing to clean that pan at his leisure in the comfort of his dog bed, so he took the pan off of the stove top and carried it over to his bed where he then licked it cleaner than my dishwasher could have managed.

Irksome, but I have to admit that I'd have liked to see him carrying that pan.

Crazy dog.

  1. Maybe coating the handle with Tabasco would dissuade him?

  4. Imagining Murphy dragging the pan by its handle ... any corresponding scrapes or dings on the floor? He's probably big enough to carry the weight, but it would have been tough to pull it off. :)

  6. Well, I would have like to see that too. Glad Murph is with you instead of me. I only have myself to blame if something goes missing here, and when it does, it really pisses me off.

Oh, wait, get a dog so I will have something else to blame it on? Brilliant!

  7. Was it a cast iron skillet or a lighter pan?

Not sure dog drool is very good for the cure in a frying pan.

  8. Now that's a dog! A frying pan is a new one on me. Trooper and Chrisi never counter surfed but Angus is an inveterate snouger. I hope he doesn't read this post.

  9. We have to put extra effort into hiding knives after we use them, or we find them in weird places around the house courtesy of our dogs...

  11. That would have been something to see! Barkley's pretty smart, but he's never carted off a cooking implement (that occassional swiffer duster, yes).
