A thought on the grass being greener.

Last night I gave Murphy a bath, because he has a skin condition that I'm trying to treat. He was not happy, sitting in that bathtub, to say the least.

But there was one in the house who was even less happy, and that was Belle, who was locked out of the bathroom. She sat at that door and scratched and whined because she wanted to be included and it dawned on me that at that moment, both dogs would have gladly changed places with the other.

Of course then I'd have had Belle in the tub, all wet and sad, and Murphy...well he'd be lying contentedly downstairs in front of the stove. He's not stupid.

I know why Murohy was so dejected his bath was not on Saturday.
According to Wishbone from Raw Hide(1959-1966) Saturday was the day God sent aside to bathe so you could be clean for Church Services.

  2. Being new, Belle craves your attention and thus she is willing to get the bath to get the attention. Murphy is more secure and thus it's not a big deal with him (your attention that is, the bath is separate issue.)

And that's the dog psychology lesson for today.
