On Police Body Cams.

After hearing yet another talking head on the news pontificating that all police officers need to wear body cameras 24/7 "so that the public can see what they're really doing", I decided that I agree. I think that every officer should have a color video camera complete with sound running at all times and that the video should be uploaded to a central server every 24 hours, one that allows full public access. and of course, in the spirit of "public monitoring", each and every video clip of any incident that the police are involved in should be searchable by address or the names of any involved parties, suspects, adult victims and witnesses included. After all, if the police have to respond to your house for a domestic violence complaint, or even a burglary report, we should all be able to see how you act and how you live what the police are doing, right? And if you get arrested, the rest of us should be able to pull up the video and watch you drunkenly curse the police, for your own safety and to ensure police accountability, of course.

It'll be like the TV show COPS, only live and uncensored and available all day every day everywhere there is a police officer.

So what do you think? Do you think that the liberal TV commentator and all of the others out there who are publicly hating on the police right now would be good with that, especially knowing that tomorrow could see a police officer with a camera and a public internet link showing up at their home?
"Whut? You're filming all this an' everyone can see it? But I just called because my neighbor's dog keeps barking at my kids!"

"Hi, Boss...I need to call in sick today. I'm not feeling well. Wait--what? You already searched my name and saw me on the police internet last night?"

"How much was the ticket? What ticket, dear? Why would you ask me about a ticket? Oh. You saw that, huh?"

"I'm doing great here at college, Daddy. Studying really hard. Oh--you saw me on the police cam? You're not going to pay my tuition anymore?!"

The more I think about it, the more I'm liking it.

So how about it, liberals? Still like the idea of a camera on every cop and full public accountability?

  1. You may have missed the part where the liberals are "special". Therefore, exempt from any of that. If implemented, would only apply to the common folk. You know, those red neck, fanatical right wing, ignorant racisssts.........like us.

  2. (Knock, knock)
"Hello, ma'am. I'm Officer Smith. I wanted to ask you if you happened to see anything when the little girl was shot in front of your kitchen window on her way to school this morning. Oh, don't worry about the camera. I'm sure that your gangbanging dope slinging neighbors that you have to walk past every morning on your way to the bus stop to get to work will never see this on the internet tomorrow."
If you think clearance rates are low now . . .

  4. It'd clear a lot of officers of wrongdoing...and convict others of same. I do favor this, especially in cases like those where an officer is forced to use lethal force against those poor Dint Donuffins who were just turning their lives around like in Ferguson, MO.

  5. I could support that! :-)

  6. You and MattG should do a point/counterpoint. I think he's got a pretty strong argument for. After all, they prove him right a lot more often than they do the complainant...

    1. Oh, I really don't have a problem with them except on principle. I believe that a police officer is and should be considered credible until it's proven that he or she is not, at which point, their career is pretty much over.

And while I'm not sold on body cams yet, I do think that every cruiser should have one that records every traffic stop. Those things often protect officers from BS claims and provide pure gold evidence in court on things like DUI stops.

  7. I think it's a great idea!!! 24/7 !!!! Actual real video of cops nailing hookers/ strippers & scared shitless high school girls in the back of patrol cars. Drunken cops beating the crap out of the non -leo patrons in a casino during a cops bachelor party. Showing how a shot thru front door mysteriously "disappeared" out of a manned evidence locker as soon as murder charges were filed against an only one. Rookie initiations held by shoving them into a local "indian" bar with a night stick and not letting them out till they broke their sticks......
Damn that's a great idea!!! I like it!!!

    2. Sorta my point above.
Police work is 99% talking to people. If people are scared to talk to you, you're not going to solve many crimes or protect the community very well.
In my 31-year LE career, in a big city, I shot exactly zero people. But I put a lot of people in jail through the art of conversation. Most of the people I talked to wouldn't have said squat if they were on camera.
