Quiz: A thing with wings

I saw this today while wrapping up my affairs work. (Read that: "while out screwing around on the clock.")
Anyone want to guess what this is and where it's at? (And yes, I blurred out it's tail number...ya didn't think I was gonna make it that easy, did you?)

  1. SR-71, looks kinda like the one at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Pretty amazing for an aircraft that first flew over 50 years ago; still holds speed and altitude records.

    1. Nope on both counts. With your screen name, I'da figured that you'd have nailed it. ;-)

    2. Hey, I only saw them from perimeter road at Kadena, (and once from Habu Hill, before the cops showed up and confiscated my film). Or, occasionally shooting TOLs between missions.

  2. I knew WHAT it was (A-12) but I had to cheat to figure out WHERE. So I'll leave that half for someone else. :)

  3. No idea where it is, but I'm 99% sure it's a Lockheed, A-12, the CIA's single-seat version of the SR-71. And unless you're at Langley, I have no idea where it might... wait... that building in the background looks familiar...

HOLY FLARK!!!! YOU'RE AT CIA HQ?!?!?!?!

  4. Definitely an A-12, as there's no rear cockpit windows, and the nose is a bit pointier.

  5. Awesome. Didn't know they had one. The only one I've ever seen was the one in Sandy Eggo.

Here's an overhead shot of the same bird.
