And to top it off...

I just had to pay a bounty of $2.00 to my neighbor kid because he saw Murphy and Belle walking down the street and got his mom to help him round them up and bring them back. Apparently one of the people checking out my roof in my absence earlier didn't fasten the gate and when I got home and put them in the back yard, they pushed the gate open and went walk-about. So then the doorbell rings, and there's my neighbor and her son with two German Shepherds who didn't even try to look repentant.

And pursuant to my earlier promise to the kid to pay a reward for every returned dog, I had to pony up two bucks.

Damned dogs.

  1. And it would be cheap at ten times the price.

It gives you another sympathetic set of eyes-and-ears in the neighborhood. That is even better than money.

    1. Agreed. And that's why I made the promise and that's why I paid. Neighbors on the other side of me just watched Belle walk away last week. Didn't bother coming to tell me. This kid got his mom and went and got BOTH dogs and brought them home. That was worth $2 even if the dogs themselves are not.

  2. Wow, $2. Why didn't you give the youngster $5. It's better than having to pay animal pound release fees.

  3. Hope the kid doesn't develop street smarts. Let the dogs out, return them for $2.

    1. I already told him that it didn't count if he let them out and then turned them in. He said "I never thought of that". I said "You would have."
