Wow

Out running this morning. Four miles down at 0700. Stopped at a bar to get a glass of water. Some old guy ordered a Macallan single malt, 18 years old. $47.00 a shot. I overheard and expressed surprise that any drink could be $47 for one shot.

Just like that HE BOUGHT ME ONE so I could see what it was like.

I confess, it's a lot smoother than my usual Bushmills. Damned tasty, in fact.

And any day that starts out with a $47 glass of scotch CANNOT go bad.

I love this city.

  1. 0700. That was after sunrise at 0657, so that was almost a shot in the dark.

    1. Nice stuff. You should also try Deanston 'Virgin Oak' in the same price range.

  4. Lucky You. The only downside is you might just pickup a very expensive habit....

  5. I had a $50 Pappy Van Winkle for dessert a few days after we saw you and the pups. Well worth it, but it's not going to be a regular thing.

  7. Must be nice to be able to afford $47 shots, not only for yourself but for strangers too!

  8. If that was 18 year old MacCallan which is around $1,800.00 a bottle that wasn't a bad price. If it was 12 year old MacCallan which is just under $200.00 a bottle it's a little steep. Regardless, single malt scotch is a first rate sipping whiskey.

    1. Hey, man...I just drank it. And it was SMOOTH. Good. Great, even. But no way I buy any more out of my own pocket.

  9. In Scotland in 2005, I bought a 21 yr old Balvenie Portwood for about $50 US. We really enjoyed it for a couple of years. Went to buy another and it was not in our price range in the states. Now drink their double-wood, 12 year old. Not as good, but more reasonable as a habit. Definite difference from the aging. Has a similar experience with Talisker 10 and 15, both
    with flavor and price.
