Feeling old today.

While surfing the internet on my day off to see if I was right about the identity of an actor who played a minor character in an old western I'd just watched (I was not), I got to looking up some classic old TV shows from my younger days.

Any of you even close to my age will remember Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies firsthand.

If not, go ask your parents. (Just make sure you stay off my lawn, you darn kids!)

Do you realize that there is only ONE surviving cast member from each show as of today, Dec 29th, 2016?

That's right. Max Baer jr., who played Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies is the only one still alive today.
Likewise, Tom Lester, who played Eb on Green Acres, is the sole remaining actor from that show.

All of the others--Buddy Ebsen, Eddie Albert, Edgar Buchanan, Irene Ryan, Frank Cady, Zsa Zsa Eva Gabor and all the others...long gone.

Also gone: the days when TV was wholesome and just plain fun.

Join me in feeling old today?

    1. True Dat. But Linda Kay Henning, who played Betty Jo, was the only one of the actresses to play the role start to finish. The character of Bobbie Jo was played by two different girls over the course of the series and Billie Jo was played by three. Hollywood had no problem switching actors and actresses in and out of the same characters back then. Of the six, four are still alive and Pat Woodell (the first Bobbie jo) and Meredith MacRae, the third Billie jo) are also gone. Mike Minor, who played Steve, just passed in January of this year.

It was a shame to see CBS make the decision to kill all three of these shows--among others--in 1971 as part of what was known as their "rural purge" to rid the network of it's country-themed shows.

  2. There was a time when entertainment had to be wholesome and XXX had to be shown at a smarmy theater with old, stained fabric seats. That's all changed and the society elected a sideshow barker like Barack - twice.

Because I remember Gilligan's Island, McHale's Navy, The Rifleman and Bonanza, I'm a relic. I have to accept that.

  3. Lori Saunders played Bobbie Jo from 1966 until the show was cancelled. As a hormonally imbalanced youngster, I had the hots for her. I had the hots for Judy on Lost In Space too.

  5. Loved both shows. Uncle Jed was a wise and good man.

I'm rather convinced that the writers for Green Acres were stoned at the time, though.

  6. It was Eva Gabor, not Zsa Zsa. I don't know if she's still around or not.

  8. I *still* enjoy the occasional episode of "Little House on the Prairie" and "Highway to Heaven". One of my best college buddy's daughter still watch "Dr. Quinn", something I watched with them as they were growing up.

  12. I grew up watching Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger, and Sky King. (Had a major crush on his niece Penny, too.) And there was Black Beauty, Rin Tin Tin and Lassie, too. Then the '60s happened. Sigh...
