This story in the Washington Post clearly shows how divided Virginia has become. There is the traditional red-state Virginia that exemplifies most of America's wholesome values, and then there is the very blue sub-state known as "Northern Virginia", where illegal immigration is not only tolerated, but rewarded with public housing (as American citizens wait in line to get units) "day labor" hiring centers, and almost total equality with lawful US Citizens.
According to the story, 100 Latino immigrants and advocates--most of them from Northern Virginia--took to the state Capitol yesterday to press for laws that expand the rights of people living in the country illegally. They had lunch with Governor Tim Kaine (a Democrat, naturally), who welcomed them and promised them his support.
(Lagniappe note: A governor who felt any obligation to the citizens that he actually represents would have had the immigration status of each one of these "lobbyists" checked and ordered the illegals detained.)
The lobbyists roamed around and tried to get OUR legislators to support for a Senate bill that would give in-state tuition to many young illegal immigrants. They claim that even though the illegals aren't supposed to be here, their kids deserve an education.
{Lagniappe note: They all have a right to an education...in their home countries. That doesn't mean that they should have access to OUR schools.)
What was really sickening, however, was reading about illegal alien Jose L. Vela, a Bolivian citizen who never asked or recied permission to enter America. Vela "spoke proudly of the Arlington citizens police academy training he completed and his membership in a neighborhood emergency response team -- efforts he said show his contributions to his community."
Vela--here illegally--said the training erased his fear of police.
Illegals are supposed to fear being arrested and deported! They are definitely NOT supposed to be attending classes offered to citizens by the police and given insight into how our police respond to crimes, including illegal immigration. And in most of America, this wouldn't be tolerated. A simple background check would have flagged this guy five minutes after he applied for the program. But Arlington is Northern Virginia, and the motto of Northern Virginia is: "Nuestro Casa, Su Casa."
