Look at this beautiful Maxim gun, and that wonderful mortar. (I so need a mortar...)
These wonderful historic firearms--and several others--are now slated for destruction because they wound up in the hands of a slimy drug-dealing loser in Massachusetts named David Plonowski. Per the Tonawanda News, Plonowski was dealing drugs out of his house and the family funeral home. When police raided both places, they found a massive collection containing "50 to 100 firearms", including a live grenade, an Uzi and three small machine guns.
Now it's no secret that I love guns, especially historic ones, but I've never supported the right of a criminal to have one, much less a batch of them. This is one of the things that separates me from the internet warriors and keyboard commandos who sympathize with any criminal who likes guns--scum like Plonowski--while hating and fearing the government and law enforcement and pretending that this somehow makes them patriotic. I think that decent law-abiding people should have lots of guns, and criminal caught with them should be thrown under the jail, not just in it. And people like Plonowski are just the sort of loser that I'm talking about. Now because of his bad conduct, anti-gun legislators and advocates for a disarmed America will be pointing to him and claiming that they need to restrict the rest of us because of that guy, as if he's somehow representative of law-abiding, gun-owning citizens. This is the very stuff that new, more restrictive gun laws stem from--laws that hurt you and me but which never stop the Plonowskis of this world. And as collateral damage, now all those nice historic guns which should be in a good gun owner's collection or in a museum more than likely will end up in a local foundry's smelter. And that's a crime in itself.
In a perfect world they'd jail Plonowski until the second coming but spare the Maxim gun. However Massachusetts is far from perfect by any standard and my fear is that we'll see Kennedys and Kerry and Frank (oh my) showing off these guns and using them to try to justify more gun control, especially if their side gets control of the White House in '08.
Very sad.
Actually I was more interested in his shirt...which milita group it was or to whom was he given support. It's true he's probably a bad character but are there more like him out there. Inquiring minds wonder!
