Apparently this founder of Code Pink and other anti-American protests has gotten tired of hanging around the US Capitol with her little pink crown on her head, daring Capitol Police to remove her from yet another session of Congress.
Benjamin and fellow America-hater Ann Wright are now protesting Canada because Canada has a policy against allowing criminals to cross into their country and it effectively bars her and other Code Pinkos from entering the Land of Molson due to their American criminal records. (I have to correct the source news story--they aren't "peace activists"--they're juvenile and disruptive women who act up to get on TV, but only in America where it's safe. Real peace activists operate in places like Africa or Iraq.)
You see, Benjamin and Wright have criminal records for their illegal activities in Washington DC and other places where they dared police to arrest them (and sometimes begged for it because there were cameras nearby) for things like Disorderly Conduct, Disruption of Congress, Trespassing, ect. It was always "cool" and "fun" for Benjamin and her Code Pink pals to get locked up, even if it does tie up police and courts and cost the taxpayers money. But now there's an albeit minor cost--the arrest records block them from going to Canada because Canada doesn't care for people who don't know how to behave. (Note: This is an official KUDO to Canada here...I usually bash them when they're wrong so now I'm praising them for doing something smart.)
From the story:
The arrests landed Benjamin's and Wright's names in an FBI-run database, the National Crime Information Center, which Canada also relies on to screen visitors. When the two women visited the country in August, they were told they would have to apply for "criminal rehabilitation" and pay $200 if they wanted to visit again. Neither did.
On Wednesday, Benjamin, co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, and Wright, a retired Army colonel, walked into Canada at Niagara Falls to test whether they really would be denied entry because of their anti-war-related arrests.
They were.
So what are Benjamin and Wright doing now? You guessed it--protesting Canada!
These girls really need to get husbands and just settle down. No one's buying their "victimized by the system" act any more.
Heh... I love these people who are oh-so-eager to get themselves arrested, and then find out that their Joan of Arc moments have unpleasant consequences.
ReplyDeleteAbout 15 years ago I had a situation where a bunch of shopkeepers in Harpers Ferry were unhappy about a decision the park superintendent had made (they were right, but that's a different story) and one of them said he was thinking about violating the order just so he could get himself arrested and get some publicity.
This was a good guy, and I pointed out that the decision was up to him, but that being it was a Saturday, he'd end up sitting in the can until Monday morning, and he might not like his roommates very much. The light bulb went on over his head, and he decided that maybe getting himself locked up wasn't such a swell idea after all.
