A couple who came to America from Iran thirty years ago are now suing the State of Oklahoma for refusing to give them a drivers' exam in their language--Farsi.
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The federal government is investigating whether the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety violated the civil rights of Iranian immigrants by refusing to provide them with driver's license tests in their native Farsi language.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched the investigation in March after a complaint filed on behalf of two Iranian nationals living in Bartlesville accused the state agency of unlawful discrimination based on their national origin, according to a letter from the NHTSA to Public Safety Commissioner Kevin Ward.
Public safety officials said Tuesday that offering state driver's license tests in Farsi could force the state to offer tests and other state documents in a host of other languages, creating new costs and administrative burdens. The written portion of Oklahoma's test is currently provided only in English and Spanish.
"The enormity of the situation is overwhelming," said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West. Driver's license tests in multiple languages would create huge composition and printing costs and translators would have to be hired to grade the tests in each language, West said.
"It could be a huge financial burden. And very labor intensive,"
West said.
The complaint was filed on behalf of Fardha Sharifi and her husband, Alireza Sanghinmanesh, who immigrated to the United States with their young son, said Hassan Sharifi, Fardha Sharifi's cousin and a restaurant owner in Bartlesville.
He said the couple wanted to get Oklahoma driver's licenses last year but did not understand English well enough to take the Oklahoma test.
"They wanted to go to work. And I had to drive them around almost everywhere they went," said Hassan Sharifi, who immigrated to the U.S. 30 years ago. "It seemed like my life was interrupted."
He said he contacted state driver's license officials to see if the test could be provided in the couple's native language, Farsi.
"They didn't answer me," Hassan Sharifi said. "I feel bad. No one wants to take the responsibility."
Finally, the couple went to the neighboring state of Kansas, located less than 25 miles north of Bartlesville, where they each passed a Kansas exam that tested their driving skills using graphic symbols rather than language, Hassan Sharifi said.
"There was no translation needed," he said. Once they returned to Oklahoma, they exchanged their Kansas driver's licenses to Oklahoma licenses and are now both legally licensed to drive in the state, he said.
The formal complaint was filed with the government by Hassan Sharifi's son, Payam Sharifi, a senior in economics at the University of Oklahoma.
The couple, lawfully admitted to our country as guests but still not citizens, have adopted the attitude of the largely hispanic illegal alien community and are saying "Hey, we're in your country now...you owe us stuff.
Now this story has me bugged on several levels. First of all is the gall of these people to come here from their own third-world, ratbag nation and then act as if it's our responsibility to change our country so that it's more like the one that they fled. Then we get their kid--a student in one of our colleges--bringing this suit. Again, this is how we get repaid for taking in almost anyone who decides that our country is preferable to their own. Gratitude isn't part of the equation for many nor do they feel an obligation to adopt our language and culture and assimilate as generations of immigrants have traditionally done. Instead of saying "hey, I want to be an American!" they now self-segregate and bitch and moan that the rest of us aren't adopting the cultural norms of the places that they abandoned.
And then we have these people doing an edn-run around the laws of Oklahoma by going to Kansas, a state that they don't live in, getting a Kansas drivers' license without showing the required residency, and going back to Oklahoma to swap it for one from that state. Not only is that unethical and probably illegal, but we have two state bureaucracies complicit in it. No wonder the 9/11 hijackers and hordes of other illegals are so easily able to steal ID's or create fraudulent ones.
Finally, we find that Oklahoma is already providing drivers' license exams in Spanish. And why is this? Are there that many people lawfully immigrating from Mexico and points south who don't have the ability to learn our language? No. The truth is that Oklahoma, like many other states, has been overwhelmed with illegal aliens from south of the border who have no desire to learn our language because they don't give a rat's fart about becoming Americans. They hold us in contempt for having a great country with fabulous lifestyles available to any hard-working, law-abiding citizen or legal immigrant, and many have bought into the fairy tale spread by their hate-mongers that claims that we somehow "stole" their land and otherwise caused the poverty and corruption in their own countries. But they're now here in such large numbers due to our failure to police our borders and remove those found to be here illegally that they now dare make demands and issue threats if they don't get their way, to include demands for us to print our government forms in their language and teach their kids in our schools, again in their language.
And now we're seeing the next part of the downward spiral. People from other countries are becoming emboldened and making demands. They come as guests--or trespassers--then demand that the rest of us pay for changes that they desire, or else. The end result, if we don't grow a national spine and set these people firmly in their place, is that we Balkanize into a bunch of smaller ethnic factions and start having problems like the Canadians do with Quebec, or like France, Britain and Germany are having with their Muslim immigrant explosions. It's time for us to band together as Americans, and while we must never withdraw the hand of friendship and welcome to productive, hard-working legal immigrants who want to assimilate and join us as new Americans, we have to let those who come here with any other goal in mind know that they're not going to get their way and that they have two choices: Come here lawfully, adopt our culture, and become part of our community according to our rules, or get the hell back to wherever it is that you came here from.
I'm just waiting for the first ALTO sign to pop up here.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, excellent Blog!
ReplyDeleteAmen. This has to stop now.
ReplyDeleteThe need to learn to speak English
or they can leave.
Lagniappe, I'm sure you won't post my comment.I'm not the kind of woman you like: unfortunately for me, I'm intelligent, an introvert, kind, etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm writing to respond to a few of your lies:
foreigners hold some Americans in contempt for having a +mediocre+ country with a +poor+ lifestyle. The poorest woman or man in Europe has a Cathedral to go to. The poorest in Islam a mosque. In some countires people have freedom from neon/electrical/pornographie/assaults: the richest woman and the richest man in the U.S. do not have that.
I've been to countries before and after pornography was ok. (third-world countries). "Before" had a beautiful, flirtatious, sensual, titillating vibe. "After", pure crassness. That's what UK/ Americans/ Jews (censor that) are giving the world. But how can I explain that? It's like saying "God exists" to someone who is blind (spiritually blind, duh, I specify for the mediocre Americans).
And: As far as the hatred for America, it's not a bout blaming the US for stealing, etc, but it's about the crassness, the materialism, the pornography, the moral relativism.
Responding to "[foreigners] are (...) making demands.": The "my basest instincts are what I should follow" culture that the US created is being spread to the world through the media. It's part of Jewish (censor that, of course) US world domination. The evil destroy the temples, the spiritual strenght of their ennemies. By saying: "lust, greed, sacrilege are ok." "The rabbi said so", say the brain-washed American Gentiles, (I guess you'll censor that).
And: France and Germany get along with Muslims because Muslims respect Catholicism and Our Lady (now you're foaming at the mouth, right? Our Lady! No! The American Jew can OK Our Lord, but not Our Lady! A Woman!)
Yes, Muslims love Our Lady (Contrary to Jews), and wait for Jesus to come get them from this Earth (contrary to Jews). So whose side would you be on if you loved Christ?
The Muslim is closer to Christ. Jews want to divide to conquer us. Lets unite to conquer them. Newsflash: they +hate+ Christ. And gentiles. Get real, America. And: "band together" so they "adapt to our culture." OK, we have the culture Blacks gave us. Melville. Can't think of anything else of value. YOu should learn form them.
About your profile: traveling ...in the US!!!Uh, 700 miles, and you end up at crosslight with the same Kentucky Fried a Mc Do, a gas station, as the one near you home.
Time to go see Mexico (the closest, but there's Iran, too
). See what Catholicism can do. You're at the Plaza, you see the Cathedral, your soul says "water, at last."
That's Our Lady, that's the Holy Spirit.
Ok, glossed over your profile. No, Casa Blanca is spelt "Casablanca." A very mediocre movie. Ouch. "The Magnificent Seven." And you didn't watch the "Seven Samurai" (Or worse, saw it but did not list it. No, that's not possible. To prefer Seven to Seven Samurai, is it? Although...Visiting the Vatican one Easter, a flatulent American leaned over to me, and said: " America is the greatest country on Earth." Rome, the Holy See, Hello? You're not comparing, are you?
So maybe you actually thought "The Magificent Seven" was better than "The Seven Samurai." Like he thought his Kentucky froed was better than the Sistine.
Well, there you go, that's the Reformation and the French Revolution and the American Revoluiton. Low class taste is no longer despised.
Now, Don Quixote, darling, nobody's going to believe you read Don Quixote.
Just be pretty... and shut up.
You won't post this anyways.
You'll post somehting from a centerfold model who cleans for you.
Sincerely,
Beautiful, genius iq, diplobrat, etc.
I.e. one of the few, who are not repsected by the many
ugly, low iq, ignorant, etc.
What to do in the face of such ugliness? Such lies. Such self-satisfaction, lack of guilt, shame, etc.
All I can suggest is that you get a Rosary and look within.
Wow.
Helen,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thanks for catching the typo on Casablanca. Completely unintentional but corrected now. I am sorry that you just don't get that movie and/or can't appreciate the great performances and wonderful story, though. Likewise, while the Seven Samurai tells a good tale, it lacks the cinematic presence of great American actors like Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn and Eli Wallach. Oh wait... Wallach was a Jew--no wonder you didn't like it.
Now as to your diatribe and your claims that I wouldn't post it...how could I not post such an interesting and enlightening post by someone who totally nails the caricature of the American Liberal: arrogant, contemptuous of America, anti-semitic, etc. You win the prize. I couldn't not post this, because I've been telling everyone that people like you exist (and serve as a brake and a drain on this great country) for years and no one wants to believe me without proof. So thank you. Getting this post of yours is like getting one from Big Foot. Now maybe maybe people will believe that bitter ingrates like you do in fact enjoy all that this country offers while hating this country at the same time. I'll bet that you even voted for Obama, didn't you?
Have a nice evening, and be sure to take ALL of your meds tonight, ok?
PS--if you read this blog, you'd see that Lagniappe is just a dog. He is a frequent subject of the posts here but he doesn't actually post here himself.
Just so you know.
