Denver Police have sense of humor...Liberals, as usual, do not.

So following the invasion of the City of Denver by the hordes of unwashed suburban white kids who came to vandalize the city and assault people under the guise of "protesting" during the recent Democratic National Convention, the Denver Police Protective Association, the union which represents the hard-working officers of that city, came out with this humorous T-shirt, which they gave to members of the department and are now selling for $10.00.
The front of the black shirt shows the number 68 with a slash through it. One of the primary protest groups at last month's DNC in Denver was the Re-create 68 Alliance, harking back to the violent 1968 political convention in Chicago.

The back of the shirt features a menacing police figure, wearing what looks like a Denver police badge and helmet and clutching a baton. He's looming over the city of Denver along with the slogan, "WE GET UP EARLY, to BEAT the crowds." Also written on the back is "2008 DNC."

There were 154 protesters arrested during the August convention; many were taken into custody following a Monday night melee with police along 15th Street.

Re-create 68 organizer Glenn Spagnuolo calls the shirt appalling and tasteless.

Spagnuolo said Thursday that members of the police union "clearly have no respect for the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution."

The Denver police detective who produced the shirts, Nick Rogers, says he has received no complaints until now. He said the shirts are being sold for $10 each at the Police Protective Association offices.

Of course the liberals--the same people who claim to support the First Amendment (when it applies to them)--are screaming mad. The same creeps and cretins who spent hours bagging up their own feces and urine to throw at police officers and convention attendees are now accusing the DPPA and Denver officers of (gasp!) behaving inappropriately. The Rocky Mountain News website is filling fast with outraged posts from assorted losers who liken the shirt to nazism and claim that this is why they don't respect the police.
(Hey dirt-bag, we know why you don't respect the police, and it's because your parents never lit your little ass up and taught you to respect authority. But that's for another article.)

Now these shirts are a pretty good example of police humor, and they're actually pretty mild compared to some of the stuff that's out there in the LE community. And liberal/cop-hater histrionics aside, it's nothing more than a few of America's finest unwinding and having a bit of harmless fun. If it bothers you, you probably need to get a grip.

My guess is that if you want one of these shirts, you can probably get one through the DPPA's store, accessed via this website. I know I'm getting one, for no reason other than to show my support for a bunch of brothers in blue who handled a tough task well by keeping order while exercising remarkable restraint.

It's not a first amendment issue. Why is that? Because nobody's asking the government to suppress this speech.

There's a huge gulf between "the government should put a stop to this" and "Denver Police are undermining the trust their communities put in them with this meatheaded nonsense."

Nobody's playing the censor. But without that, your argument falls apart. So keep holding on to your precious victimhood. In absence of common sense, it may be all you have left.

  2. Whatever.

They're still funny, and I'm still buying one.

  3. You shouldn't let anonymous responses through your screening process. If someone doesn't have stones enough to put their name to what they wrote, why should you give them a forum to comment?

I suspect that there will be some attempt to censor according to the definition "anonymous" has given - they just don't have all the paperwork done yet.

  4. The anonymous ones do face heightened scrutiny, and most of them don't get through, mainly due to the profanity and/or lack of redeeming value, but I will let a few through when it suits me, usually when I want to use what they say as a springboard to reach other, more thoughtful people.

But you're right, and people who give their names and/or info related to their own sites are rarely so rude and I almost never censor them out.

ANinnyMouse - You think no one is trying to put pressure on the Powers That Be at DPD over this shirt? Since The Powers constitute a local Government, I would say that this IS a First Amendment issue.

    Where is YOUR argument, then?

I think it's funny. If the protesters came up with the shirt you can bet the whiners would be defending them.

Yea, yea; it's causing controversy here. Wah. It's not like they're planning on wearing it while on duty. Now, why don't we have a discussion about the money unions take and donate to people/organizations that it's membership has an issue with?

  9. Totally love the shirts!!
It's always so funny to me how the libtards always scream "free speech" until you say something they don't agree with.

free speech? they can say whatever assinine thing they want on their t-shirts.

but, as people said, it only goes to hurt their respect in the community.

and not, it's not because people didn't get it from their parents when they were young. In fact, i'd say it is quite the opposite.

I was taught by my folks that respect is something that works both ways and is something you earn through your actions and, often, being above trite things like this t-shirt.

and i sure as heck don't have to respect you because you simply because you wear a badge. I know plenty of great cops in the metro area, many of whom thought this shirt was as tasteless as the 'libtards' you all seem to think are so out of line.

it doesn't really make THEIR job easier when the community at large thinks the cops view the community as something they can push around.

and, unlike the protesters, the cops don't have a force of armed men shutting down what they have a right to say.

(oh, and there never was bags of poo and pee stored up anywhere in denver, or thrown during protests. but hey, keep only arguing your points with made up scare tactics)

  13. Oh please...get a grip already. It's humor. I know that you perpetually angry folks on the liberal loon left are unfamiliar with the concept, but it's nothing more than satire.

Those who respect and appreciate the police will understand, and those who already hate and fear the police (the criminal element and the fringe loons on the far left and right) will still hate and fear the police regardless of this shirt.

And most people understand that the only people that the police "beat" are the violent lawbreakers who ask for it--not decent, normal, law-abiding folks.

As to your final claim, it's been well documented that your peers were stockpiling bodily waste and hiding it around the city. The police found practically all of it before you could use it, but the fact remains that the sub-human element of the protest crowd was planning to hurl these substances and did actually crap into bags and store it for that purpose. Deny it all you want, but the police and the newspapers are a little more convincing.
