70 y/o man shoots two teen robbers.

Meanwhile, back in Deroit, a gun appears to have saved another life--that of a 70 year old man.

Teen killed in shooting outside Detroit high school

The man had a concealed carry permit, however he was apparently in one of the state's "Designated Victim Zones", as he was leaving a school building when he was accosted by the punks who probably thought that he looked like a good, safe target. Turns out that they wound up being the targets. Literally. Now we'll see what the prosecutor's office does with this case. Do they really intend to try to jail a senior citizen would-be crime victim for protecting his own life too close to a school building? We'll be watching.

Oh, and unsuprisingly, the news reports are spinning this with inflammatory and misleading headlines that make it look like some poor children were just shot for no reason. When the low-information voters see the headlines and refuse to read further, they'll doubtless be motivated to join the call for more gun control, "to make the streets safe", of course.

Fact: This old man just made the streets of Detroit safer than all of the gun-banners ever have or will.

  3. Apparently, the guy is a reserve police officer - this may be why he is "allowed" to have a gun on school property - I don't know the Michigan law about that specifically. At age 70, he might possibly have been a police retiree, which I think also exempts him under federal law. I don't know that at all, it's just speculation.

Perhaps our friend "The Shekel" will have some info MI law regarding reserve officers status in CEZ's.
