Quiz answer

OK, apparently I--or Google--made the quiz too easy. But yes, all of the people listed here appeared as guest stars or extras on The Partridge Family between 1970 and 1974:
Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, Dick Clark, Bert Convy, Harry Morgan, Howard Cosell, John Astin, Jackie Coogan, Vic Tayback, Mark Hamill, Jodie Foster, Larry Wilcox, Louis Gossett, Jr., Norman Fell, Richard Pryor, Rob Reiner, Arte Johnson, Slim Pickens, Johnny Cash and President Reagan's daughter, Maureen Reagan.

Brigid was the first one to get it though, offering as a qualifier that she is, of course, to young to actually remember that show.

So for all the young ladies out there, here's a trip down memory lane:

It looks like many of their songs and a large number of their 96 episodes are available for free on Youtube for those who want more. It's all out there.

Oh--and if you really don't know what the Partridge Family is, go read this. And get off my lawn, kid.

Of course, I would not be me if I didn't take a moment to pose a question that's been on my mind since I did yesterday's post:

"If we could arrange a gang fight between the Partridge Family and the Brady Bunch, who do you think would win?"

  1. If it were just the kids, then I would give the Partridge Family a slight edge. Rationale: They were a bit more disciplined, specifically, the group discipline and cohesiveness necessary for musical performance. This "team player" discipline and focus would serve them well in a gang fight.

But if you get the adults into the mix, then it is Brady Bunch by some very steep odds. Alice the Housekeeper would be the MVP of all the adults in any gang fight.

I watched it solely for Susan Dey and Shirley Jones (who still has an amazing singing voice!)

  7. While it's true Danny's scrapping is well documented, only Shirley Partridge as field marshal, and Susan Dey as legal counsel would be of much use for the hippie bus team.

On the other side, Mr. Brady would've been outside the theatre of conflict, engaged in rear flank maneuvers. With Alice as field general, redirecting inter-sibling rivalries, the Bradys probably would've had the edge.

But both are moot, as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals when Hop Sing sent the Cartwrights ahead of My Three Sons when he slipped some mysterious Asian powder into Uncle Charley's salt shaker, an advantage that no amount of Flubber could overcome.

    Don't know for sure.

But you can bet your sweet ass Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be no where to be seen, unless, of course, somehow the "Jackson Five" got caught in the middle.

  9. I was close - I thought it was "The Love Boat".

I must be Brigid's age - I watched it too, and not on Nickelodeon. I even had the first album (which cover was painted up like the bus), and was a member of the fan club.

How's that for a dark secret from your past?

    And +1 on Susan Dey!
