Evening at the old campground.

The Spud and I spent the whole day doing "guy stuff". Now it's evening. A campfire is about to be lit and I might even break down and use the campground wifi and Netflix to watch a "guy movie" before bed. Camping is not like I remember it back when I was in my teens and twenties.

The ground seems to be a lot harder, too. But I wouldn't trade today for anything.

  1. The sleeping bags got narrower too! I'ts an insidious plot, I'd say.

Enjoy the time out with the Spud, he's lucky to have you in his life.

  2. Looks like the Spud has lost some weight/gained some muscle since the last photographs. Good for him.

  3. So many of the photos you post (air and ground) have water in them, you might consider trading in your Cessna for one of those Seabees.

According to the article by Bach, the cabin is 9 feet long, not counting the 3-4 feet under the engine tower, accessed by a connecting door.

The seats fold flat to make a full double bed!

I suspect the operating costs might be a bit higher than your Cessna. 90mph low cruise, 115 high cruise. Low=about 8 hours/tank, high=5 hours. 75 gal tank. Strangely enough, the V8 mod claims about the same fuel use, at a slightly higher speed rating.

You would be best to find an extended wing/droop tip version. Shorter takeoff run, IIRC.

Depending on your activities, you may save some money on car/boat rentals, motels, campsites, etc.

The wimmenz might find the flying boat more attractive than the generic Cessna type...

It might even qualify as a "warbird", since it was used in small numbers by various .mils, including Israel, IIRC. The US ordered big numbers of them, but the war ended too soon for production to get up to speed.

  5. Yes, the ground gets harder in proportion to the number of decades you've slept upon it.
