The rifle that followed me home from the Indy NRA Convention

Well ok, it really didn't, but the timing was perfect. This was a build project that started here during last year's post-Sandy Hook liberal bed-wet-a-palooza that kicked everything gun-related into panic mode.

And yes, even I bit on the hook to an extent. In addition to hoovering up some extra ammo and magazines that I could still find at normal prices, I bought two AR lowers at prices that admittedly embarrass me a bit today. But I got them and started work on them as time and money allowed. The first is going to be an MK12 SPR when it's finished, and this one that just rolled off the build rack is a .300 Blackout short-barreled rifle with a 9" barrel and an Advanced Armaments Corp. 762-SDN suppressor that arrived at my dealer the day before I left for Indy. The upper also was slow to arrive, so I did not get to finish-assemble the rifle until I returned home, but I got to handle one just like it quite excessively at the AAC booth in Indy.
Now mine lacks the spiffy collapsible stock for now, sporting instead a Bushmaster Entry stock designed for compactness and use with body armor. I didn't have the extra cash for a new Mag-pul stock like all the cool kids use, but I did have this old Bushmaster stock, and it does look rather fetching in a retro sort of way, eh?
A Mag-pul MOE+ pistol grip and trigger guard will be ordered soon, because those are just the bee's knees, to put it in language that Old NFO and his generation will understand.

An Aimpoint T1 Micro red-dot optic will eventually top this rifle off, but for now...Mag-pul BUIS (Back Up Iron Sights) front and rear.
And because it's dark half the time, this one is getting a Surefire light too, although I'm likely to replace this monster with a newer, smaller one given time.

So how short is it? Well here it is with an M1 Carbine.
I haven't had it to the range yet, but I did sneak out onto my back yard "test range" and fire one round of Remington's 220gr. ammunition last night. It sounds like a loud air rifle, and that was without any hearing protectors. Me like. Me like lots!

Now it needs a sling.

  1. Beautiful!

I'm both happy for you and cheerfully envious, and the arms race is on yet again.

  7. Nicely done. While I have been a Surefire fan for *mumblemumble* years, and still use them for a number of things, may I recommend the Inforce WML series for examination? Lighter, reliable, and at a great price point. I've been running one on both my .300 and my work 5.56 for over a year and am more than satisfied with the product in the real world. Just a thought.

    2. I have an Inforce, too. Good gear. I'd be running it on the gauge, but I just can't warm up to the bolt-on rails on the Magpul forearm.

If I didn't have the bucks already sunk in the Scout light, I'd put it on my other carbine. It seems to be best mounted on the top of a midlength rail ahead of the front sight.
