Gun Skool, Day 1

OK, first a word about Southern Utah and the summer heat: Who the heck lives here on purpose?!

That said, Six and I just completed the first day of a two-day advanced carbine course taught by Keith Garcia and Ron Avery, two distinguished shooters with loads of law enforcement and competitive experience. Both instructors were great thus far, and the class' small size (twelve students total) means that each of us is getting plenty of assistance and one-on-one time with one of the instructors. Of course most of the others don't seem to need it much as they are all experienced three-gun competitors and they all have highly optimized rifles and competition gear whereas I'm shooting a pretty basic carbine built up with stock parts, and by the end of the day I felt like I'd just competed in the Daytona 500 driving an old K-car. (Ask your parents, kids.) But I learned quite a bit about stance, draw, sighting and driving the rifle that I did not know before, and I learned a bit about modifications that I need to perform on the rifle as well as what gear needed to be stripped off of it. It was a day well spent, even in triple-digit temperatures, and I'm glad that I'm in this class, even if Six is kicking my butt. But one of these days, he'll come visit me and we'll spend a winter week well above the snow line in northern Michigan and we'll see if things don't come back around just a tad.

Aside from class, I saw my first bevy of Mormon wives shopping together at the Wal-mart. Two of the three were kinda cute, and I'm starting to think that this polygamy thing might have something to it. I mean, I can have more than one German Shepherd and it works out good, right?

Ok, I'm way exhausted now so I'm done with this today. You all have a good night. More tomorrow.

Damn, it's hot here.

  2. Polygamy? On purpose? Isn't there a word for that?

Oh, yeah - masochism (although I mean that without the sexual overtones).

I'm pretty amenable to getting married again, but, uh, to just one woman. Hard enough to try to understand one gyno-American, much less two or three or more.

Glad to hear the shooting's going well. If you feel like Paul Harvey's mule in the Kentucky Derby with your K-car rig, I'd positively be a Chevette with my Mini-14.

  3. Dude...Living with one woman is trouble enough.

    Living with 2 or three?

    Nope.

Been there done that. It ain't what you think.

  4. Thing to remember is you're not doing it for a 'game'...

  5. Just *completing* the Daytona 500 in a K-car is cause for celebration! As long as the gun runs when you pull the trigger, it's the experience and seat-time behind the bolt-carrier that counts.

All things considered I don't think "have" is the word you want to be associating here. "Own" maybe, but "have"??? What are you doing w/ those poor dogs!!??!! {;>)
