On the upstairs deck. I read a book while Murphy dozes. Lazy dog.
Always watchful though, even when he appears dead to the world.
"Hark! Who goes there?"
And where there is one on alert, there are two. They're a team.
"Oh, you did NOT just say 'Hark'... But if something is out there, let's get it all the same."
They may be annoying at times, but they do what they do damned well indeed.
(Not actually them in this pic, but it could be.)
Always wondered about that response. Had a GS/Black Lab that could be so asleep he was snoring and suddenly up and on alert. Always something would happen, but he was ready.
ReplyDeleteYep. And if one senses something, the other one cues in immediately. It's beautiful to watch. And I feel a lot better leaving the Lair under their protection. Murphy in particular gives no quarter.
ReplyDeleteThey live up to their namesakes
ReplyDeleteThere is something about the awesomeness of that relentless bark of a GSD once they lock on to the "mission" however little it may be. But I also understand the annoyingness at times too in the middle of the night but as I lay there it still brings a smile to my face just thinking that if that is a bad guy out there, they will be thinking "perhaps not that house, lets find an easier one." My Brace of dogs consists of a black Great Dane and a sable GSD. Both in tact makes. One with a big booming bark that will rattle the windows and Hansi the GSD that is ready to roll at a moments notice.
ReplyDelete**Both In tact males that is
DeleteYep, they'll do fine... :-)
ReplyDeleteI've seen ours go from "Dead to the World" to "Attack Mode" in about 100 milliseconds.
ReplyDeleteit's amazing what info they're processing even when they're "sleeping".
I would love to make you a sign for your pups.

I like watching your site as I am a want to be pilot too. I envy you.
Thanks -Bill
I came to the Lair WITH you and perimeter defenses gave no quarter until across the wire. They were vicious tag teaming me once inside the fence as well =)
ReplyDeleteOh, come on. They loved you once you got inside, especially when you handed out the biscuits.
DeleteYes, but a friendly coordinated attack on the home made biscuits!
DeleteNot Hark. Bark!

Kymber at Framboise Manor just got a new puppy. They never had a dog before and she had some questions. I've never raised a puppy, all my dogs were dump offs who moved in and made themselves to home. With my blessings, you can't live up here without good dogs.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever raised pups maybe you could stop by and give her some advice. Her last post she seemed kind of frazzled. If you don't have her url just click on one of her comments at my place. I'm sure she'd appreciate it. She and j are good folks. Don't make any Canadian jokes though!

ReplyDeletewent back and got it, just in case you could help her. Mainly it's things like how soon a puppy can start living outside. Damned if I know.
