Never invite a dog to do what you don't want them doing

So the other day, I'm putting stuff up in the attic of my new house. Belle comes to the bottom of the attic ladder and looks up at me. I call her name ONE TIME and she does this:

Up the ladder she climbs. Shaking, and scared to death, but going to go where "dad" is in spite of that. It was all I could do to stop her before she got all the way up and get her back off the ladder.

You can't force a dog to do something that scares them like that. Only the unconditional love and devotion of a good dog can make one do it in spite of not wanting to.

Hey Murphy--you paying attention?

"I got all the steps I need right here, Boss!"

  2. Has Belle become the Alpha? Because, if not, she needs to apply for the job!

    1. She took that slot her second day in the house, much to my surprise. She tuned Murphy up a couple of times and that was that.

  3. I hope she made the trip back down on her own. A good friend of mine has a 180 pound Mastiff that has no trouble going up but wont come down under his power.

  9. What could be more fun than trying to figure out how to get her down from the attic, and then doing it!
