Air Force New Orleans flyover

To salute frontline health workers. Four passes in 20 min.

  1. Okay, they're neat, but is this an effective use of my tax dollars, especially when the healthcare workers they're "honoring" are either inside, working, or inside, catching some much-needed Zs?
    And why the Buffs? It will only encourage the press to say Trump plans to nuke New Orleans and any other city run by Democrats.

    1. Yes. Yes it is. It is nice to be reminded that there is more than just fake-virus stuff.

      As to the BUFFs, nothing says dropping 100k of hurt like a BUFF.

      Arclight the 9th Ward, and start over.

  2. Hey Murphy;

    I think that is pretty neat, I like airplanes, especially BUFFS, but there will be liberals that will be bitching about wasting of money that could be giving to poor people instead not seeing that the planes would be using it anyway as part of their training requirements and instead it is a 2 fold still training and showing the flag.

    1. I would bet with pretty good certainty that they'd flown an actual training mission and then did the fly by on the way back home. Did a fair amount of fly overs for funerals and sporting events in my day. The only difference was we did the fly by first (being on time was made or broke the flyover part) and then went out to the area and conducted training. Usually didn't shorten the training time by much. And, believe it or not, arriving at a specific point in space at a specific time is harder than you'd think and requires some training in and of itself.

    2. Oh I believe you, Juvat. In fact I was going to say that they were two minutes late on the last pass over City Hall (schedule said 0952, they passed by at 0954) but I decided why be petty? But what it the allowable over/under for Time on Target?

    3. Depended on the mission. Plus or minus 10 seconds for a conventional bomb run. It's been a while, since I did them, but I think it was plus or minus 2 seconds for rescheduled sunrise. Didn't want anyone to be looking the wrong direction when the sunrise happened.

  3. I like airplanes, too. If Mr. G is talking about me, it'll be the first time anybody called me a liberal (except for when I point out it's not a good idea to shoot someone to protect property). People usually say I'm slightly to the right of Vlad the Impaler. As far as training, how many B-52 missions involve flying over hostile territory at 1,000 feet? Asking for a friend.

      No, I wasn't referring to you, I knew better LOL But I have read enough stories about the various stories about the locals in Naworleans and here in the ATL where I live they say the same thing in the local newspaper because "orange man bad"

    2. Yeah lot of whiny millenials crying about it today. No surprise there.

  4. Thanks! It brought back great memories as a kid and those big old birds flying over the house at tree-top level.

  5. They need flight time, why not over the Big Easy? Out of Barksdale AFB?

    Neat photos.

  7. Just a comment. That formation is at least 178 years old. The last Buff was delivered in 1962, so 58 years ago. The Last C/D model Eagle was delivered in 1989, so 31 years ago. I took of my shoes and socks to do the calculation but (58x2)+(31x2) =178 years. I think we need some new airframes. I know the Eagle that had my name on it was delivered in 1978, and it's still flying. If it and it's next of the line sister had been in that formation, that would have been an even 200.

    But, hey, we gave Arts and Humanities programs as well as Public Broadcasting $225M, so we can sing "Kumbaya" as we listen to communist propaganda being broadcast...Comrade!
