So last night, I'm up last watching a really bad Chuck Norris movie (The Hitman). It's after midnight, and I'm checking my e-mail, and I see one from a couple of days ago from my minister inviting me to a men's prayer breakfast at 6AM this morning.

6AM? Really? On a Saturday? But part of me feels like I should be there.

However, another part of me--the weaselly part--suggests that I can make the guilty feeling go away by sending an e-mail right now asking for directions to the location (because it wasn't in the e-mail), because there's no way that I'm going to get a reply back in time to be able to find the place and attend. And if I don't get directions, then it's not really my fault if I can't go, right? So I send the e-mail, thinking that, having actually expressed a desire to attend, I'm covered now.

Imagine my surprise when I get a reply back in less than a minute with the directions. From the minister himself. At 1230AM. He's glad that I'll be there, he says. Not much I can do now. I groan and set the alarm for 5AM.

Come morning, I make it there, tired but on time. I see the minister in the kitchen, helping with the breakfast. I thank him for his prompt response to my e-mail, but of course I have to ask him why he was up so late the night before to even get my e-mail.

"Well normally I wouldn't have been up so late," he replied. "But I got hooked on this old Chuck Norris movie that was on..."

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Give it a rest, John Edwards

OK, I've really had it with John Edwards now. He's got everyone and their uncle out there crying about pundit Ann Coulter spinning a bad joke and insinuating that he is gay, and then he turns around and tries to raise money off it by telling everyone to show their disgust for Coulter's "bigotry" by sending him campaign contributions. And this from a guy who recently hired two of the most bigoted bloggers out there--Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwen--and kept them on his staff despite their blatant anti-Christian, anti-Catholic bigotry. Now Edwards wants to wrap himself in the "victim" label and get people to pay him because he's allegedly been targeted with hate speech.

You'd never guess that this guy was a trial lawyer, would you?

But Edwards is far from done. Next the guy who hires Christ-hating bloggers claims to speak for Jesus Christ, telling an interviewer that "Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war when it's not necessary.”

It's bad enough that the guy hires and retains employees who mock Christianity daily, but now Edwards wants to use Jesus as a campaign prop to advance his own views. And what "selfishness" is Edwards talking about? It's a fact that Americans give more charitable aid to other countries and provide more disaster relief than any other country on the planet, and Americans give more to charity as individuals than do citizens of any other country. Could Edwards be talking about the "selfishness" that causes one to build and live in a six million dollar, 28,000 square foot mansion--the largest home in his county--while his neighbors still live in trailers?

Of course this shouldn't come as a surprise. Edwards really wants to have it both ways. He wants the Christian vote (as long as it doesn't earn him the wrath of the left-wing blogger community) and he tells people that he's a Christian, but then he turns around and says that he doesn't see America as a Christian nation. Trying to have his cake and eat it too, Edwards tells the website beliefnet "I guess the word 'Christian' is what bothers me, even though I'm a Christian."

So the idea of a nation founded on Christian ideals bothers him? Good thing he wasn't there to interfere with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin when they and other founding fathers established this nation in accordance with Christian principles. Or maybe it's the idea of identifying too strongly with the 80% of us Americans who ARE Christians. After all, that will hurt his standing with the radical wing of the Democrat Party--the ones who believe that morality has no place in society any longer.

A couple of weeks ago, I merely disliked John Edwards as a Presidential candidate because I saw him as someone who never did an honest day's work in his life and who made his fortune as a trial lawyer by suing hospitals and other large corporations then pocketing a large chunk of the payouts. I don't care for people like that as a rule--and it's because of people like that and the system that they perpetuate that I do not practice law today even though I am an attorney.

However John Edwards' obvious hostility towards Christian principles, coupled with his attempt to cover it up and pander to Christian voters, has convinced me that John Edwards is 100% wrong for America. We don't need him as President and cannot afford him or anyone like him in a leadership position, especially in today's times.

Democrats turn their backs on Christians

Normally I don't link to editorials, but this one by Gary Bauer over at WorldNetDaily really hit the nail squarely on the head. He makes the point that when Democratic Presidential wanna-be candidate John Edwards hired two liberal bloggers, Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan, and subsequently discovered that both were long-time anti-Christian bigots with a track record in which they smeared and mocked Christians, often with profanity-laced tirades, Edwards could not even bring himself to fire these two girls because he was more worried about upsetting the liberal blogger fringies that were rallying around the two foul-mouthed girls. And this was despite the fact that practicing Christians comprise 44% of the voting electorate, many of them the minorities and blue-collar Americans that Edwards claims to identify with.

And as if Edwards' moral cowardice wasn't bad enough, it's noteworthy that none of the other Democratic challengers opposing him had a thing to say about it themselves. Not Hillary, not Obama, or any of the others. Not a single Democrat wanted to stand up on the side of Christianity and risk incurring the wrath of a bunch of angry dateless twenty-something liberal losers. It goes a long way to describe the current Democratic stance on religion and God that not one was willing to stand up. Oh sure, when it's almost election day and they're riding high in the polls, then they'll want to stand up in the pulpits of large urban churches and pander for votes, but none of them deserves that opportunity frankly, because when those same church members were being slandered and debased by Edwards' blogger team because of their faith, not one of those Democrats was willing to object.

And Bauer makes an excellent point in his editorial when he wonders how quiet Edwards and the rest of the Democrats would have been had his bigoted bloggers regularly targeted muslims, gays or made racist comments.

So if your faith is real to you, you need to think carefully about who to back in 2008. You could back someone that represents the party that frequently puts up leaders with strong faith, like President Bush or former President Reagan, or you can vote for one of the cowards who had a chance to stand up for Christians and defend them last week but refused to do so.

The choice is yours, but who do you think that Jesus would vote for?

Ah, sometimes life just works. Edwards dumps his bloggers again.

As I write this, I'm happy to say that Presidential wanna-ba John Edwards has finally "accepted the resignations" of those two profanity-spewing, Christian-mocking dullwits, Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan. As most of the sentient world knows by now, John Edwards hired these two to be his campaign bloggers, supposedly because he wanted to show the internet-savvy voters that he was "hip" and "with it". But apparently he didn't research these two very well; he just hired them because they were associated with prominent liberal blogs. After putting them on the staff, however, he began to hear from constituents about this incredibly poor choice. It seems that these two donkeyettes have a serious rage going on against Christians and the Catholic Church in particular. In fact much of their blogging consists of profanity-laden diatribes against andone who believes in Jesus or the Virgin Mary.

Well Edwards panicked and immediately fired both of them last week, only to rehire them both the next day after the internet blogging community began to pillory him. Of course caving in and bringing them back only further angered Christian groups, including religious Liberals and Democrats. Edwards was seriously stuck between a rock and a hard place.

But apparently he figured a way out that wouldn't make him look like the bad guy. It was announced yesterday that both Marcotte and McEwan "resigned". They're gone again, this time supposedly by their own choices, and Edwards can claim (none too convincingly) that he had nothing to do with it.

This whole thing demonstrates Edwards' poor judgement and shows why he's not the man who should be President. He makes decisions without the proper information, he cannot stand by his decisions once made, he reverses himself multiple times to try to please everyone, and finally he's not even man enough to publicy axe the two that everyone knows he fired. And if he can't handle hiring two bloggers, how's he ever going to fill cabinet posts, Judgeships, Ambassadorships, and Supreme Court Justice slots?

As to the bloggerettes, they're now back at their old blog sites, bemoaning the loss of their paychecks and prestige jobs and planning how to get even with everyone who called for them to be fired.

But listen up, chicklets...none of us ever told Edwards to fire you. We just reposted your own words and let everyone know what you were really like and much of mainstream America was revolted. (Heck, even Edwards was disgusted, and he's a long ways from the mainstream.) You cut your own throats with all of your hate-spewing, kids. All we did was take your vile thoughts and mocking statements out of your liberal blogs and put them out in the public square for everyone else to look at.

Hero of the week: Tim Bono of Bono Film & Video, Arlington VA.

Tim Bono, owner of Bono Film and Video in Arlington, VA is a hero today.

Last month there was a story in the Washington Post about how this mean, bigoted Christian had discriminated against a gentle, kind, violin-playing gay-rights activist named Lilli Vincenz and been found guilty of said discrimination by the Arlinton County Human Rights Commission. Looking past the Post's slanted (90 degrees +) story, I found that Mr. Bono operated a film-reproducing business called Bono Film and Video.

Mr. Bono chose to run his business in accord with his Christian values and he had a disclaimer on his website stating that he would not reproduce works which contained pornographic or other immoral content. Lilli Vicenz, a professional gay-right activist, presumably saw this disclaimer and e-mailed Bono, asking if he would reproduce a couple of old films she'd made about early gay rights protests. No money ever changed hands and nothing more specific was ever asked, because as soon as Mr. Bono discovered that the films contained homosexual context, he sent he an e-mail back stating that he did not wish to take on this job. And instead of taking her videos to any other store and just getting them copied, Vincenz ran down to the Arlington County Courthouse and filed a suit against Bono, alleging the he'd discriminated against her. Now mind you--there was never a contract and no money changed hands. She sent an e-mail asking if he'd be interested in doing this job and he sent one back that said no. Frankly it smacked of a set-up by this self-described "life-long gay activist" who just didn't like the idea behind Bono's disclaimer and saw a chance to get some free publicity for herself and her cause.

Outrageously, the Arlington Human Rights Commission immediately decided against Mr. Bono and ordered him to either reproduce Vincenz's films or reach into his own pocket and pay another photo lab to do it for her. They backed this order up with the threat of a $5,000 sanction if he refused to comply, in effect telling him and everyone else that we have no right to turn down business offers no matter how objectionable if the person making the offer is gay. presumably Bono would have turned down a similar request to reproduce straight porn or videos revolving around witchcraft, and that would have been ok according to the commission. But enter a gay activist with an agenda and everything changes.

But Bono stood his ground and the Liberty Counsel, a Christian legal-rights group, backed him up. They filed a suit on his behalf against the Arlington Human Rights Commission as outlined in this short Press Release. The premise was that local government does not have the right to pass legislation that gives special status to people that the state legislature has not given it to, in this case, people who simply prefer to have sex with members of their own gender. And no sooner was this suit filed, than the 6-11-06 edition of the Washington Post reported a change of opinion by the Arlington Human Rights Commission. That board voted to reverse itself and absolved Mr. Bono completely of any and all charges of discrimination.

So thanks to the Liberty Counsel and Tim Bono for standing up against the forces of political correctness and liberalism. it's good to know that in the year 2006, Americans are still free to turn down offers to do business that are morally objectionable no matter who asks.
