Live by the rules you impose on others, Governor.

So in Virginia, Governor Terry McAuliffe, recently issued an order barring the open carry of firearms in virtually every state building and office in Virginia. In response, a Virginia State Senator has offered up a bill intended to defund the Governor's armed security detail and strip him of his armed State Police bodyguards.

Va. lawmaker wants to defund Gov. McAuliffe's armed guards over gun dispute

“It’s easy for someone who is surrounded by armed state policemen to tell someone else they can’t carry a weapon to protect themselves,” Republican state Sen. Charles W. Carrico Sr. told FoxNews.com.

I like it, even though it probably won't pass. If our elected "public servants" knew that laws imposed on us by them will apply to them too, it would make them consider the consequences of their actions at least a bit more than many do now.

Sadly, Virginia is going to have a rough ride with this guy, a long-time Bill Clinton ally with a history of scandals and corruption that is much longer than his actual public service resume. (He's never held elected office before...he was just a Democrat Party money bundler.) But in this instance, I have to blame a segment of Virginia voters here, specifically the 146,084 fools who, after months of opportunity to study the race and pick the best candidate capable of winning, still decided in 2013 to vote for Robert Sarvis, a Libertarian candidate who, as is turned out, was funded significantly by McAuliffe/Obama cronies who hoped that he'd be a spoiler against conservative Republican Ken Cuccinelli, the former Attorney General who was known for being strongly pro-gun. In the end, McAwful took the race by a slim 56,000 vote margin and the gun rights of VA citizens took a kick in the nuts. Lesson to be learned here: Voting is important, and not voting stupid is really important. But that lesson was apparently lost, because that Sarvis came right back in 2014 and jumped into the VA US Senate race, where he had the same effect: He pulled 53,000 votes away from the actual conservative pro-gun candidate Ed Gillespie and it threw the race to anti-gun Democrat Mark Warner by 16,000 votes statewide. So that was TWO opportunities to elect a pro-gunner to major office and send known bad guys packing, and both were blown by a handful of people who obviously confuse voting with some silly reality TV game because they keep voting for the guy who has no chance of winning and who appears to be only able to afford to run when supported financially by the Democrats.

I weep for Virginia's gun owners. I really do. But I never forget that they keep doing it to themselves.

Libertarian Voters throw Virginia to the Democrats

The rumors have been out there for weeks but the story broke today confirming them, sadly too late to reach most of the voters. The gist of it: Robert Sarvis, the Libertarian in the race for Virginia Governor, was funded primarily by a big Democrat bundler from Austin, Texas as a spoiler intended to strip votes away from Ken Cuccinelli.

Revealed: Obama Campaign Bundler Helping Fund Libertarian in Tight Va. Gubernatorial Race

And as of this writing, over 120,000 Virginia voters still cast their ballots for the guy. Had that 120,000 voted with the grown-ups, Ken Cuccinelli would have been declared the winner already, repudiating the Dem agenda of higher taxes, gun control, amnesty for illegals and expansion of Obamacare that Dem candidate Terry McAuliffe endorsed.

Be proud, Sarvis voters. You didn't bother to research your candidate so you got rooked by a Dem operative and gave the state to McAuliffe. And because you were so easily gulled and so eager to throw your vote away on an unelectable kid just because he had an "L" after his name, Virginia now has a crooked Dem Governor who his pledged to ban guns and give the state over to the illegals and the unions. You Sarvis voters could have supported a real candidate with a real record supporting conservative causes and fighting for our freedoms, but you had to be edgy and non-conformist (just like all of the other non-conformists) and piss your votes away in this crucial race between good and evil. And because you did nothing, evil won.

And it was so close...so damned close.

Thanks a lot, supporters of the so-called "Libertarian". Now go stand over there with the illegal aliens, the union screechers, the welfare-getters and the gun-haters. Those are your people now and they owe you all a big debt of gratitude; they couldn't have taken Virginia without you.

Coloradan gun owners fighting to recall anti-gunners that the Libertarians elected.

Gun owners angry over the betrayal of Colorado State Senator John Morse turned in twice the number of signatures needed to force a recall election after he led the fight to pass Colorado's draconian new gun control legislation that took effect this spring. Now the battle's on, and Morse will be forced to defend his seat. A loss for Morse will send a message to other gun-banners in the legislature who come from districts with large numbers of shooters. However this fight will be long and expensive, and both sides are clamoring from money from all across the country.

I have to point out that this never needed to happen in the first place.

Morse only won by some 400 votes in 2010, with 1300 other votes going to a not-going-to-win Libertarian; in effect, those votes were never even cast in the actual race.

2010 election results:
John Morse (D) 13,866
Owen Hill (R) 13,526
Douglas W. Randall (L) 1,320

Had 1320 people used their heads and cast votes that made sense, Morse would never have been there to screw gun owners in 2012.

Likewise, Another State Senator, Evie Hudak, only won her race in November because the Libertarians gave 6.7% of the vote to some guy who wasn't even competitive, allowing Hudak to top the Republican in the race by one percentage point.
"November 6, 2012 General election candidates:

Democratic Party Evie Hudak: 35,664
Republican Party Lang Sias: 35,080
Libertarian Party Lloyd A. Sweeny: 5,104

(Thanks, Libertarians!)

Sadly, a similar effort to recall Hudak appears to have failed, so she's there to stay, courtesy of her anti-gun Democrat base and the Libertarian Party.

Votes have consequences, people. Voting is important. And when you cast a ballot in a close two-person race and throw it away on some third person who has absolutely no chance just because you want to make some sort of "statement", you basically refuse to vote. It's as if you just decided not to stand up and stop the bad guy.

So Colorado got saddled with bad laws because too many people decided not to bother opposing the anti-gunners, and now the rest of the state has to pay for that apathy/arrogance/stupidity. I wish the Colorado gun owners well with their recall against Morse, but I have to point out for the record that it didn't have to come to this in the first place. Even half of those 1,320 silly Libertarians could have prevented this two years beforehand, but they chose not to.

Why most Americians think Libertarians are nerdy and immature losers #642

Last Saturday night in Washington, DC, a gaggle of Libertarians who (surprise!) couldn't find dates all decided to go to the Jefferson Memorial at midnight in recognition of Thomas Jefferson's birthday. Libertarians operate under the delusion that Jefferson was one of them, a guy who despised authority, smoked pot, and probably lived in his parents' basement until he was about 40 years old. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course, but one only has to listen to them rave about how things will change when Ron Paul gets to be president (yup...they still say "when"...) to know that most of these well-intentioned but pathetically sad people aren't exactly tied to reality.

Anyway, it wasn't a bad thing that they went to the memorial. That's what the memorial's there for, and personally I enjoy it the most late at night when the crowds are gone and you can take it all in in a more solemn and reverent setting.

But that's where the dimwit brigade comes in. Rather than show respect for the memorial and others present, they bring cameras and music and begin singing and dancing and carrying on, finally getting to the point where the Park Police tell them that they have to leave.

So what do our dateless, clueless Libertarian friends do? Do they apologize and offer to tone it down? Do they leave as they've been told to do by the lawful authority? Nope. They begin to badger and harangue the police officers, demanding to see the laws that grant the police authority to remove them and claiming that if Jefferson were alive, he'd be supporting them. (Historical note: Jefferson was very big on law and order and obeying lawful authority, despite what today's Libertarians think.) That's right, they got up in the officers' faces and got even louder and more out of control, and finally one of them, a trust-fund kid named Mary Oberwetter, was placed under arrest when she continued to re-enter the chamber after being removed. Another socially-repressed Libertarian named Jason Talley continued to argue with the police but backed down short of getting locked up himself. Per the Washington Post article on this, Talley tried to make the claim that he and the others were being oppressed by the big, bad government.

"So you're saying the state is going to reject us?" Talley says. "It's Thomas Jefferson's birthday. We're here to celebrate that. And the state is throwing us out. There is something wrong with America when we get thrown out of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial when we're silent and peaceful and celebratory!"

"Thomas Jefferson's looking down, and he'd be very dissatisfied," Talley says.

However, Talley's diatribe has been amply responded to by someone much more mature and educated than he:

Quite the contrary, says Peter Onuf, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation professor of history at U-Va.

"What they're referring to here is Jefferson's endorsement of popular resistance to tyrannical authority," he said yesterday. "What these folks were involved in was provoking authorities into having to enforce the law. Jefferson was very anal about obedience to the law.

"It trivializes Jefferson to suggest that in his name or spirit someone would ignore the will of the people as expressed in law," Onuf said. "I don't think he'd bother to turn over in his grave in this case."

So in the end, a bunch of 20-something and 30-something spoiled white kids got mad because the police told them to stop doing something and spoiled white kids don't like being told that they can't do stuff. Now this is all over the internet and Youtube and the Libertarian blogosphere is off the hook with electronic screams of fascism and tyranny.

As for me, I'm backing the cops on this one. You Libertarians need to get jobs and focus on living your lives without bothering the rest of us for a while. And yes, that includes boring us all to tears with tales of what Ron Paul will do when he, like Jesus, comes to save us all.
