Iran Hikers Pick Oakland for Public Debut
Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal took part in the an Occupy Oakland rally at Frank Ogawa plaza. They said they wanted to show their support to the movement taking place in their town.
Up until now Occupy rallies have been mostly economic protests, but the hikers appearance took a turn toward the political. The hikers said they also felt a solidarity with hunger strike going on now in California prisons.
Would someone PLEASE send these three BACK to Iran and get our money back, at least until they learn to appreciate this country and show the appropriate gratitude?
Every time I think that I can't hold these three in any more contempt, they pop up and open their mouths again.
Despite the fact that I disagree intensely with those kids' political views, I would hate to think that our State Department might determine whether I was worth rescuing from a foreign prison (not that that situation is likely to arise for me) based on my political orientation.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly, they are out on bail.

Paragraph ten is interesting
Some U.S. commentators said the bail money was more like ransom as all sides know there is little chance any of the three Americans will return to Iran to serve more jail time.
They have undoubtedly violated their release conditions. Let's have "Dog the Bounty Hunter" hauls their sorry asses back to Iran (or any Iran embassy or consulate).
Problem solved.
I'm going to agree with you here. They crossed that border on purpose, thinking that 'getting arrested' in somewhere like that was somehow the same as 'getting arrested' at a sit-in in the USA.
ReplyDeletePoor babies. I feel as much for them as I do for the clueless druggies on LOCKED UP ABROAD. Which isn't much.
@ JOn: I don't blame the State Department. That's what they're there for. I blame these three spoiled brats for their repeated displays of ingratitude and for continuing to grind our faces in the fact that they still apparently hate our country more than they do Iran.
ReplyDeleteHi Murphy,
